4-4-04 What is the name of the opera piece at the end of the last Sopranos ep. (#57)?
Sopranos Episode 57 "Irregular Around the Margins"
(While Christopher is away on business, the Soprano crew plays a game of "telephone" with a rumor involving Adriana.) Song 01 Luba Orgonasova : CHI' IL BEL SOGNO DI DORETTA (MAGDA) (from La Rondine) Song 02 Tipsy : CINNABAR Song 03 Little Steven: COME FOR ME Song 04 H2S04 : COME ON Song 05 Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned : DRAGGIN' THE RIVER Song 06 Unit 187 : I GOT IT UNDER CONTROL #1 Song 07 The Chesterfield Kings : I DON'T UNDERSTAND Song 08 The Chesterfield Kings : MYSTERY TRIP my guess is the uncredited final song was a replay of song 1? But since i missed the beginning of the show i don't know if the last song was a repeat of Luba Orgonasova. Plus I have no idea who's who in opera and could use a little help. It was an absolutely beautiful song. Please offer some suggestions for similar performers, and cd titles. Thanks. -Craig |

foxdvd, here's what i've learned
1 When it comes to opera there's a lot i don't know 2 'aria' apparently means song 3 that HBO song in the end credits is definitely "Il Bel Sogno Di Doretta" 4 It's from the opera La Rondine (The Swallow) 5 The composer is Puccini 6 The singer is Luba Orgonasova although the opera knowitalls at this other site were arguing about that -some saying Montserrat Caballe is the singer, others say Cecilia Bertolli ... er, okay. I find Orgonasova so much more appealing to the modern ear, don't you? "It's not the first time it's been heard on The Sopranos; the last time was in the pilot (when Tony passes out while at the bbq). The selection can be found on her Best of Puccini album on Naxos." Lyrics: DORETTA'S BEAUTIFUL DREAM Who could guess the beautiful dream Doretta had? Why her mystery came to an end One day a student kissed her on the mouth And that kiss was the revelation: It was the passion! Mad love! Mad happiness! Who will ever be able again To describe the light caress Of a kiss so burning? Oh! My dream! Oh! My life! Who cares for wealth If at last happiness flourishes! Oh golden dream To be able to love in this way! Ominous, indeed... Linkhttp://boards.hbo.com/thread.jsp?for...026&msRange=15 I bought a Puccini cd yesterday with that song - the cd was called 'Puccini's greatest divas' or something - Renee Fleming is the woman singing Doretta on my cd and to me it sounds identical to the version that HBO chose. But I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a fleming or an organosova anyway. I didn't realize it but the Sopranos sometimes pay to have artists record new songs (or covers) for the show. Remember, a couple episodes back Bob Dylan sang his version of "Return to Me" - really cool version - and that was done just for HBO. What a show, amazing music every episode. [edited] the cd i found was called The Ultimate Puccini Divas Album by Decca http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...roduct-details Sounds like a menu item at Jack in the Box - the Ultimate Triple Bacon Puccini |
Thanks! I am going to pick up that CD as well
