Seriously though, they were pretty good, and their unplugged CD is excellent. I liked some of the other "Seattle" bands a little better, but AIC is still great compared to most of the other shit out there today.

See, this is funny. Nobody will come in this thread and crap on his memories saying he's a terrible musician, and was overrated like they do with Kurt.

With that said, it is very sad. He was a great vocalisty. One of my favorites. I'm still pissed I never got a chance to see them in concert. :(

I HATED Alice in Chains. But I dont' like any musicians to die, cause they mean something to someone.

Nobody will will say that he is overrated because he didn't become the next John Lennon the second he died like the idiot press did to Kurt Cobain. His fame level was correct for his talent, probably not enough was said about his death though.

I was not a big fan of Alice in Chains but when they got a song right, damn did they get it right. His best songs are far better than any of Nirvana's songs. And he had a great voice.

Layne saddened me a little more that Kurt, that isn't a knock against Kurt or his talent, they were both amazing talents.

I guess it is because Alice In Chains were with us longer and put out more music, and I always hoped there would be another album.

It really is a sad week in music.

But who made him that? The fans. He didn't make himself that.

Layne was much better than Kurt ever was. I was sadder to see him die than I was Kurt.

If they both had lived, just think of the great music we'd still be listening to. :(

I really find it odd that Layne died (or was found) so close to the same month and day as Kurt. Do you think he was thinking about Cobain's death and it made him even more depressed? Who knows...I guess he really just died from the drugs, which had basically taken over his life, and the lingering guilt and sadness from his girlfriend's death six years earlier. It's a shame... :(

As for Kurt, I don't think he was Jesus in flannel, but like Layne it was obvious he had a lot of inner demons he couldn't reconcile that no one could really help him with. What was so sad to me is that both of these guys seemed to always feel they had an image to uphold (yes, even grunge acts had an "image", though they tried to act like they were anti-rock star...that was their image). They always seemed either pissed off and angry, or sad and mopey. Only occasionally did they lighten up and show their senses of humor. I'm not saying that either band should have put out a dance-pop album, but with the kind of music they were making how could they not be bummed out?

I was more heartbroken over Layne's death, because it really seemed he just faded away and let his life be completely taken over by drugs, but I was sad over Kurt's death too. Yes, you can say "he did it to himself", but I can't act like I know the type of pressure he was under. If he did want to end Nirvana and do other things, do you really think he could have done that successfully without *******s constantly criticizing him about ending one of the best bands ever? Obviously, as talented as Krist and Dave were, Nirvana was Kurt's band, so where the band went was really up to him. I think he dreaded having to explain for years to come why he wanted to quit/end the band. Courtney said he should have just stopped. I don't think he felt it would be that easy to do, even if that's what he really wanted.

Of course, doing a lot of drugs will make a person extra paranoid, but I really think that towards the end of his life he was struggling with the decision and not wanting to let the fans and his bandmates down. It's all speculation though. I don't know what was going on in his head. I don't think he was murdered though. Those conspiracies are silly in my opinion and the guys who wrote that new book are just looking to make a buck.

If Kurt had ended Nirvana and moved on, I doubt he would have went near American Idol, but he might have ended up like Billy Corgan. Does anyone really give two shits about what he does anymore? It's not like he's nearly as powerful and exciting musically as he used to be, and his whiny voice just seems pretentious to me now. Kurt was much more talented than Billy in my opinion, but I do wonder what his post-Nirvana music would have sounded like. I doubt his music would have completely wiped away Britney and NSync like some people think. People seem to forget that, even when grunge was at it's peak, acts like Color Me Badd, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Right Said Fred were on the pop charts having their biggest hits too. Kurt wouldn't have "saved" music if he had lived. Shitty rap-rock bands and Creed-clones would have still emerged to bore us all. I would have liked to hear Kurt's thoughts on them. Most of these newer bands cite Nirvana as an influence, and he would probably have disdained all of them :lol:
