From: musictap.net - Here's an interesting one for KISS fans. Gene Simmons issues his next solo effort with the strange..but not unexpected title of A s s h o l e. You can pick this one up on April 20, from Sanctuary Records. More info here:

9 times out of 10 Gene pisses me off to no end.

But I'll bet this Cd is probably decent. Either way, I'll probably wait and buy it USED just to Piss Gene off

It'll be better than his 1970's solo album.

Gene is about making money, so he won't be doing anything that strays too far from the formula. If he has well written material, it'll be great. If not, it'll just be cookie cutter hard rock.

The track listing is:
"arsehole"
"Carnival of Souls"
"If I Had a Gun"
"Weapons"
"Waiting for the Morning Light"
"Whatever Turns You On"
"Sweet & Dirty Love"
"Beautiful"
"Dog"
"Now That You're Gone"
"Black Tongue"
"I Dream a Thousand Dreams"
"Firestarter"

No "When You Wish Upon a Star" this time, thank god.

That's better than the title I heard it was going under: "A**Hole". "A s s h o l e" is certainly easier to say than "A- asterisk asterisk hole"

There are 2 songs Im really interested in hearing..

The one co-written by Bob Dylan..

and the song co-written by Frank Zappa featuring guitar and vocals by Frank as well as Dweezeil, Ahmet and the girls(whatever there names are..moon or something like that) and his wife as well...

Should be a great disc!

I've always felt that Paul Stanley was the best musician/songwriter in KISS so I hope he does a cd too.

I look forward to this. Looking at the solo albums that they put out at the same time way back when, Gene's was my favorite right next to Peter's.

Wait, what's the story of Simmons writing a song with Dylan? That's the oddest pairing I've heard since Dylan wrote a song with Michael Bolton.

Yeah...I know. Just look at my guzzlefish cd collection and you will see that I am proud to listen to Air Supply one day and then to Alice in Chains the next.

I really do like Peter's disc though. It is very mellow and very "70's" which I guess that's why I like it. It's groovy, man!

How would you rank the four KISS solo albums? If I go by how much I listen to each of them, it would have to be:

1. Gene's
2. Peter's
3. Ace's
4. Paul's

Don't get me wrong, I like them each quite a lot (but hey...I also like Unmasked and The Elder a lot as well). We ought to have a thread for dvdtalker KISS fans to rank each cd in the order they like them. I bet we would get some surprising results, especially when you are talking about 26 albums from 1974 to 1998. (I don't count greatest hits as an album)

"Carnival of Souls"

be great to finally hear this song. It was demoed for the COS album. Im guessing this is one of the tracks Bruce and Eric play on.

By far, Ace's was my favourite. Brilliant album. Next for me was Paul's, which basically sounded like a Kiss album. Then Gene's, and Peter's last (mostly made up from old songs and demos not really even written by him, but he barely had anything written and the deadline was looming, so he did some wheeling and dealing to get his name on the credits of songs by an ex-bandmate).

My gut feeling is that this will be a good album. Dumb title though. Not exactly a selling point to his aging fan base. I might have found it funny 15 years ago, but now I just think i'ts stupid.

Then again, if he actually called it A-Hole (as opposed to just calling it A s s hole) then it would have a talk radio (especially sports talk radio) vibe going on, and that would work better for what should be the target audience.

If Gene thinks he's gona sell this thing to a bunch of 20 year olds he's kidding himself - no matter how good the album is.

I've met my twin!

I too love Unmaksed, The Elder, and even Killers!

I would put Paul's solo at #2, but I have to admit as much as I loath $immons, his solo album is the best. See you Tonight is simple, but if that track couldn't be on a Beatles album, I don't know what else would.

Man of a 1,000 faces and Mr. Make Beleive along with Don't Run and Hide (forgot the exact name at the moment) are some of the best KISS moments ever.

Ace's solo is good, Paul's is pretty good, Peter's is ok, but Gene's was the best.

What a prick. There are so many things wrong with that cover.

What about something toned down for once Gene? I heard him and Paul NEVER really talk, I can see why.

To me, Paul IS KISS.

Zoinks.

This is up there with the Shatner "Mr. Tambourine Man" remake as far as shitty remakes go.

Who does he expect to sell this to? Teenagers and twentysomethings will think it is stupid, and his core audience of seventies kids will think it sucks because they hate techno.
