New album: 'Cee-Lo Green...Is The Soul Machine' out March 2 on Arista Records. ___________________________ 'Soul Machine' is the second solo album from the singer/rapper, songwriter, producer and Atlanta native Cee-Lo. He is a founding member the seminal hip-hop group Goodie MOb, and part of the Atlanta musical collective Dungeon Family. The new album is the follow-up to his debut, 'Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections'. "I'll Be Around," is the first single and video, produced by and Featuring Timbaland. In addition to Timbaland, SOUL MACHINE finds Cee-Lo working with an impressive list of guest artists, production teams and writers. Topping the list are two tracks co-written and produced by the Neptunes and featuring Pharrell:"Art of Noise" and "Let's Stay Together." Additional guest spots include "Child's Play" featuring Ludacris, produced by Organized Noise, along with "Scrap Metal," featuring Big Rube & G-Rock. Jazze Pha co-wrote, produced and is featured (with T.I.) on "The One." Pha also guests on "My Kind Of People," with Menta Malone. DJ Premier handles production on "Evening News." As with his debut, the prolific Cee-Lo has once again written or co-written all 18 tracks on SOUL MACHINE. ___________________________________ Anyone heard this yet? 'Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections' was great, IMO, and I'm looking forward to March 2. |
That's a pretty  cover. I hope the tracks he did with the Neptunes dont suck too badly.

I liked his debut a lot at first, but it got old pretty quick. One problem I think was that it was way too long, it could have stood to be a lot tighter.

I rarely listen past the first six or seven tracks. Cee-Lo's voice isn't conducive to extended periods of listening at all, IMO. |
You're right. While his debut was a good, originally thought out album, Cee-Lo is much more tolerable in a group environment. The Goodie Mob's first two cd's are undeniable classics, in my opinion.

I can listen to the first album over and over. Been playing it in the past couple of weeks in anticipation of the Soul Machine...
Also: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=341903 I have heard the sampler of Soul Machine, and it sounds like good stuff (the first single and short samples of 4 other tracks are included). I've been frustrated for the past month or so due to 3 or 4 different release dates I've seen listed (starting with 1/21, as his website claimed). |
What's everyone else think of it?
It's different than I expected - better than I expected, in fact; greater sonic and stylistic diversity, stronger songs from beginning to end and it just works better as an "album." My favorite songs on the last record were uniformly the up-tempo, more manic tracks, so I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the slower pieces here. Cee-lo nails the R&B more than once. My only complaint after the initial spins, and this extends to ALL pop music, really, is that there needs to be a "one spacey spoken word track of no greater than five minutes in length per album" limit. |
roomate has it, haven't listened to it yet, but I'm seeing him when he plays on campus later this month. We'll see how his live act is without Goodie Mob or Dungeon Fam

Originally posted by jay77 Quite the contrary. 'Art of Noise' is one of the best songs on the album. It's a solid, well-rounded album. |
Yeah, I'm on record as saying that I can only take Cee Lo in small doses, but this album is very good and consistant.
|
Cool, I'll have to get it whenever it pops up on alldirect.
