Anyone have an extra Rolling Stone sampler SACD?
 

Hey. I just got an SACD player, and I was hoping some friendly RS subscriber without an SACD player would be willing to send me the SACD sampler (RS500) that came with issue 937. I'll resort to ebay if necessary, but I'd rather not. Thanks.

I have it, and have an SACD player, but why do you really want it? It's not that great of a disc, it's just 10 pretty random songs. It is kinda cool that they gave it to us for free though eheh.

I'm curious to hear the Elton John, Who, and Billy Joel stuff, and I don't really want to drop money on any of those sets just to find out how they sound. I already have Dark Side and some Dylan stuff, but it'd be nice to hear the others... I'm sure there are tons of discs that just got tossed in the trash. I'd imagine 90% of RS readers don't have SACD players.

Ah, that I didn't know... Thanks for the info. Though I'm sure a bunch of them still got thrown in the garbage. Most people who would want those songs on CD probably already have them... i think.

I ended up with two copies of issue 937, so I have an extra disc. It's yours if you want it.

I have the entire Goodby Yellow Brick Road and Tommy discs. I would wholeheartedly recommend GBYBR but not Tommy. Tommy is really weak on the surrounds and low end even though Townshend claims he worked on it for half a year. Wait for Quadrophenia. GBYBR is bright, brilliant, and dynamic for a 30 year old disc. Sounds amazing.

With Townshend heavily involved in the mixing of The Who material, I was kind of skeptical about the possibilities. Seriously, he's clinically deaf. Thanks for the reccomendation on GBYBR. I'll probably decide on it after I hear the title track on the sampler. :)

You have to really crank it up on Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies bleeding. Awesome sound. Yeah as much as I respect Pete, his constant reissuing and regurgitation of the old WHo records has met with some rather shoddy results.Here's his comments on SACD:

"I'll do the entire catalog. SACD truly revitalizes old analog
releases, and 5.1 is terrific for more-complex 16-track and 24-track
works, as well as the older sessions. I've rebuilt my old studio to
undertake this work. Next up is Who's Next, Quadrophenia, Rough Mix,
Empty Glass, and Live at Leeds. I hope to do them all. Elliot Mazer,
Bobby Pridden and Jon Astley are all pitching to help out, but I'm
greedy! I'm loving this work so much. . . .
I've waited a long time to hear CDs improved. . . .
today we have SACD, and it sounds as good as the old tapes I can pull
out of the Who archive."

Jesus Christ! They just came out with the Deluxe Edition of Who's Next last year!

Has any other band recycled their early materal as much as Pete and the Who? I have a book called A Decade of The Who where the writer says no band has spent as much time looking back at their early career as the Who. And that was written in the mid 70's!
