60 minutes II - Toby Keith interview

I am no fan of country music by any means. And after watching this, I still am not. But I did find that I enjoyed both Toby Keith as a person and even like Dan Rather more than I use to.

Any Toby Keith fans or country music fans in these parts? How do you rate his stuff?

As an aside, the only song I really know of his is the "boot in your ass" song. I rarely listen to it becuase it makes me depressed/mad etc. because of how powerful it is. It reminds me of that other country song that gets played a lot for patriotic reasons. I can't remember it because I don't listen to much country

All I know is that Toby Keith's last album is called Shockin' Ya'll. And that's all I need to know.

He's made a lot of money off of tragedies and war. So, i'm not really a big fan. Not sure why people don't see this.

that and i hate country.

Ditto the hate country.....again, because it is that bad.

I guess I don't see a big deal about him making money off the war, etc. Dan Rather had notes sent to him from soldiers about how his songs were great for morale, etc. If someone is going to make money from the war, I am at least happy that it appears to help out the troops as well.

Interestingly, he was supportive of the action in Afganistan but not Iraq. He supported Bush and the troops in that regard, but didn't really support the idea of it. I found that interesting.

I think his music sucks, but he is a pretty good person.

He still lives here (Moore OK) and he goes around town like everyone else. People see him often around town at Wal Mart, or at OU games, etc. He recently built a huge house outside of town.

It is kind of refreshing to see a celebrity who doesn't just pack up to Nashville and treat people like crap.

FWIW, he has quite a few hits besides the war song.

Interesting about not supporting the war in Iraq. I had no idea.

How are you and the kids (and toby keith, to stay on topic)?

Kids are a lot of fun. Kids with a cat in heat, are even more fun.

I'm suprised the Darling Nikki thread died so quickly after I posted. I do have that affect, though

How are you and CM enjoying marriage?

Marriage is great so far. CM is being especially nice to me because I am sick (he's sick too).

I happened to catch his video "Beer for My Horses" on CMT a while back and it occurred to me that country-western music now has its very own Spinal Tap.

Why I was actually watching CMT, I don't know.

I love his music. He has some really great songs, such as but not limited to:

Should've Been a Cowboy

You Ain't Much Fun (Since I Quit Drinking)

It's just that the Angry American song really struck a chord and that propelled him to superstar status. You may not like country music, but if you go to one of his concerts you will prolly leave having had the most fun at a live event in the last year.

I don't think it started that way. It wasn't his intention to put the song out and I honestly think if he didn't make news with the Peter Jennings fiasco then his rise to the top of the country scene might not have happened so quickly.

God, I hope that wouldn't be the case.

Why? I'm not saying you will go out and trash your current cd's and buy all country music. I'm simply saying that his shows are very energetic and just real fun to be there.
