Dramarama - Why haven't I ever heard of them?

I was watching VH1 bands reunited, the reunited "Dramarama" a band who had two "major" hits in 1984. Well, I was in High School in 1984, and was definatley into music - I never heard of them! Were there videos for these songs? Was I mentally blocking these songs? "Last Cigarette" and "Anything, Anything" are the hits they had. Can anyone help me out here? They are from NJ, and I am originally from NJ too! How could I have missed them?

Doug

Dramarama were a great band. I don't know why VH1 is acting like they were big because I never thought they were a big band, they were somewhat known around here (in northern NJ, IIRC the came from Montclair, NJ), but not really.

I honestly don't remember them having major hits in '84, but I am probably too young to. They did have a fairly big hit on the college rock charts in the early 90s with "Haven't Got a Clue" though...but it was still college rock charts.

They had a few videos, I can't remember if they had videos for Last Cigarette or Anything, Anything though. Anything, Anything is a great song though. I think I am going to have to pull out my CDs when I get home now.

They re-located from NJ to LA in '84 - they were pretty popular around here (for an alt-rock type band) and got decent radio-play.

They still play that damn Anything, Anything song on the local alternative station here in Phoenix. Probably has to do with the fact that Dramarama was a Phoenix band.

I've always heard their name but didn't recognize any of their songs on the VH1 show.

I always liked dramarama, but it was well after '84 that I got into them. I grew up in northern california and they were a staple on Live 105, which was always imitating KROQ down in LA. Even though they were a NJ band, I've always heard that they made their biggest mark on the west coast, and even that wasn't large.

Their greatest hits: 18 Big Ones, is worth checking out if anyone likes their music, or the two songs they play on the radio

Many times on many mix tapes I included their song "Incredible".
Love that tune. Just went and checked and it's on their hits disc.

The lead singer, John Easdale, has been doing the solo thing for a while; I saw him in concert about five years ago and bought his album. It's an uneven effort, in my opinion, but "Waiting For That Sound" and "Bright Side" (also the name of the album) are good tracks.

Anything, Anything was a pretty popular song. They still play it on LA radio.
