Best B-side Collections

With the Cure thread going on, i got to thinking what other bands have great b-sides - and proudly release them in a collection (not just as b-sides). here's what i could think of:

THE CURE "Join the Dots"

SMASHING PUMPKINS "Picses Iscariot"

PEARL JAM "Lost Dogs"

Hollowgen 01-27-04 02:11 PM

joy division - substance/heartandsoul

sataniko 01-27-04 03:48 PM

2U released 2 B-sides CD's, one CD in each of the Greatest Hits albums.

birdseye 01-27-04 03:55 PM

Oasis - The Masterplan

They have some great B-sides.

Andalusia 01-27-04 10:45 PM

"Super Black Market Clash", which is mostly b-sides.

I second that. The b-sides from off the "New Morning" singles were much better than what was put on the actual album - go figure.

Wrong CD. Continue........

danganet 01-28-04 07:40 PM

Tears For Fears - Saturnine Martial & Lunatic

Burnt Alive 01-28-04 09:25 PM

Rocket From The Crypt - All Systems Go & All Systems Go 2

Maybe not the best, but it has one the best titles for these types of CDs (plus, mine came with a bonus disc of an entire one of their shows):

And all I know from them is their collaboration with Public Enemy, but another great title:

It would definitely rival 'lost dogs' as my fav. b-sides album.

Also, Pixies - 'Complete B-Sides'

What about Metallica's "Garage Inc?"

A mish-mash of b-side covers and, well, covers. I have to say, I enjoyed it more than anything Metallica has released since Reagan was in the White House.

And "Lost Dogs" loses HUGE points from me for not including "Angel" on it. WTF?

The Cure: Standing On The Beach/The Singles: The B-Sides

And 2 already mentioned (good call): Pet Shop Boys Alternative and Tears For Fears Saturine, etc.

when i started the thread i forgot:

Jesus & Mary Chain "Barb Wire Kisses"
Superchunk "Incidental Music" (which takes you through 1993 i think, there is now another one for the next 10 years)

I used to have an album called Attack of the Killer B's in the 80s, prior to the theft of my record collection.

Not the greatest, but it had a pretty good Marshall Crenshaw song (You're My Favorite Waste of Time, I think it was called) and Laurie Anderson Walk the Dog.

Hard to find a link, now, since Anthrax is almost all that comes up, but here's one (doesn't list the tracks, though): http://www.robertchristgau.com/get_album.php?id=4342
