Recommend good headphones
 

Can someone recommend a good pair of headphones to go with my MP3 player? I hate those stupid earbuds that come with them.

How much are you willing to spend?

i think i'd like to keep $50 as the max.. they will probably be used a lot on airplanes.

These have good sound and they fit within your ear canal to muffle any outside noise.

He said "I hate those stupid earbuds" so I doubt he'll like those.

I think there's difference between those Fontopia earbuds and the uncomfortable round ones that don't fit in anyone's ear. Plus, for under 50 bucks, I don't think there are very many good non-earbud headphones.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser PX200's last month, and they are by far the best portable headphones that I have ever purchased. They just sound really great. They also fold up and can be stored in an included plastic case. They are all around great sounding, comfortable, and very portable! I highly recommend.

the ear piece on it looks small.. doesn't it let in a lot of background noise?

Thanks for the site Phuz... Sorry if I sounded picky, I guess what i really need is a site that reviews headphones.. I'm looking for what they call "Over the head" earphones. Is there like a consumer reports for audio equipment?

In your price range I would recommend the Sennheiser HD-497. Aside from Grados (which are a bit more expensive and have comfort issues) The 497s are the best sub $100 headphones you can get.

I have the Grado SR60 and I love them. They sound great. I think I payed $55 on sale at a local hi-fi shop a while back.

Actually I agree with Thrush about the comfort issues. After about a half hour they start to hurt my ears a little bit, but since I hardly wear them longer than that I don't worry about it. It's not severe pain.

I don't think most people would like Grado's for airplanes because they are very open. You still hear everything around you and everyone else can hear you playing your music.

The Sennheiser Px-200s are closed and do a good job of blocking out sound, plus the people around you can't hear your music even if it's playing loud. www.ecost.com has them much cheaper than any other place I've seen. They also have the Px-250s which add noise cancellation, but I use the 200s on the bus every day and they work well enough.

I just bought a pair of audio-technica ath-m40fs phones. I like them a lot, pretty comfortable and block out a lot of noise. Not very portable though. Also, it has an 11ft cord which is great. They're studio headphones too, so you dont (shouldn't) have any sort of eq boost coming from the phones.

Ii have those sony ex71's that are previously mentioned, and i really like them a lot. im not a fan of earbud headphones, mostly due to them falling out and not getting much bass (even though if i push them in more, there is a lot more bass, but i would be walking around with my hands on my ears, lol). The ex71 are really comfortable, dont even know that they are there. Plus they block out most sounds, not all, but most.

If you are going to go for the traditional pair of headphones definately stick with closed.

I second the Sennheiser PX200s. I've been using the PX100s (Open) at work/school for the last few months w/my MP3 player and I've been really impressed. They don't have the base response of the HD580/600, but very good for portable phones.
