Who else LOVES Clay Aiken (and his music)?

I just got Measure of a Man yesterday and listened to it for hours. Measure of a Man is my favorite track, but in my opinion all of them are awesome. Something that surprised me was the "if I was invisible I'd make you mine tonight" - I thought I read somewhere that he only wants to make wholesome albums and that line struck me as rape-ish. Maybe I'm wrong about the nature of the line.

He has some great singing chops. Here's for a long and fruiful career. He's also cute as heck

Although I do like the song "If I was invisible" I think his album should be called "Aiken for a Man."

Wow, 10 replies and not one serious taker, eh?

Well, as I've said in another thread, I am a big fan of Mr. Aiken's talent. My wife and I both made AI appointment television last season to listen to both Clay and Kimberly Locke. I still think Clay was robbed of the title by something behind the scenes.

Regardless, Clay has won the war with consumers outselling Ruben (and I believe even Kelly's first release). We actually bought 2 copies so we could each have one in the car or at work.

The album is full of great tunes and decent lyrics and I think "Measure of a Man" is a fantastic song. I also like "I Survived You."

This kid has real talent and that the real test will be staying power. I think he's got what it takes to make a career out of it.

As to the poster who thinks he's a fake, from everything I've ever seen or read about the guy, he seems to be a well-raised, well-mannered, and level-headed kid who knows how to relate to others and give back to those who have helped him get where he is. I think it's great that he even went back to school and work on his degree.

Deb, you're not alone.

I bought the CD... and I listen to it in rotation with the rest of my music. While I enjoy the music from the AI contestants, I don't go ga-ga over them. Of all their CDs, I like (in order) Clay's, Justin's and then Kelly's.

I still have to pick up Rueben's album... maybe next month.

The funny thing is right now on NPR (namely "Fresh Aire with Terry Gross") they just interviewed Simon Cowell, and they are ending the segment with "Invisible".

On another note, at his A&E Christmas Special, Barry Manilow told Clay that he liked his music, but had some bad news... and then he pointed to himself and said "This is you in 30 years!"

Yeah, I thought that was a weird line too. In fact, the whole song is kinda sketchy like that, isn't it? Maybe he meant to say, he wasn't invisible.

Anyway, his music is catchy but I doubt that I'd buy his album.

What are you doing tonight
I wish I could be a fly on your wall
Are you really alone
Still in your dreams
Why can't I bring you into my life
What would it take to make you see that I'm alive

[Chorus]

If I was invisible
Then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible
I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I can just tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible
(Wait..I already am)

I saw your face in the crowd
I called out your name
You don't hear a sound
I keep tracing your steps
Each move that you make
Wish I could be what goes through your mind
Wish you could touch me with the colors of your life

[Chorus]

If I was invisible
Then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible
I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I can just tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible
(Wait..I already am)

I reach out
But you don't even see me
Even when I'm screaming
Baby, you don't hear me
I am nothing without you
Just a shadow passing through...

[Repeat Chorus]
That's deep...

Sounds like he was watching Hollowman while writing that song.

From a mistaken lyrics page:

Misheard Lyrics:
If I wasn't miserable

Correct Lyrics:
If I were invisible

I like that Invisible song, even though it's creepy and encourages voyuerism/stalking.

I'll still be in the front row when Clay and Kelly come to San Diego. Or not, whatever.
