DT is my favorite band of all time, I've seen them 4 times, they put on a great show, but lately I just wish they would take off from touring for a few years and just concentrate on new music. Do an album a year or something instead of all the touring & side projects. They've gotten into a routine

... new album, tour some of Europe, tour US, go back & finish Europe...

I'm just wanting more music!

Ergyu 01-12-04 03:00 PM

Hmm I enjoy them, I might have to go see this show.

Seems that the Roseland (portland show) is pretty damn small for a band of such stature. It only holds about 2000 people.

Mordred 01-13-04 05:48 PM

I really hope they come through Texas. Haven't seen them in a few years and am dying to go again.

I'm stupid enough to get the Platinum Package. I assume there will be another presale for another set of venues later on?

Aghama 01-20-04 07:32 PM

Wow, that's pretty crazy. 4 of the 5 times I've seen them it's been GA, and to meet & greet and get photos you just needed to stand out by their bus.

das Monkey 01-20-04 08:29 PM

Yeah, but did you get a "Collectible Dream Theater laminate"? HUH? That's what I thought! :D

Seriously, I'm proceeding from the assumption (perhaps falsely?) that this is one of those things that largely benefits the artists more than the corp. If so, I like to support those kinds of things. DT's always been pretty good to me as a fan, so I'll support them when I can. Also, I'm attracted to the idea of a group photo with the entire band, which I've always found difficult to get unless it's an organized Meet & Greet. Still, yes ... it's crazy, and moreover (like I said) it's stupid. But I work hard every day just to be able to do stupid shit with my money. :)

Some clearer info regarding those pkgs (not me)

This evening Frank Solomon, Dream Theater's manager sent me back an e-mail requesting contact info because MP had forwarded my e-mail to him and was concerned. I just now got off the phone with Mr. Solomon and will relay some pertenant facts about the conversation.

#1. There are only 20 Platinum packages per show! 4 seats in each of the first 5 rows. The rest of the seats in the front 5 rows ARE in the general ticket pool!

IMO this was probably their biggest mistake, NOT relaying this information to us earlier. Had I known it was only 20 tickets per show in the front area, I would have not getten NEARLY as upset as I was this morning.

#2. Everything that is going on is with the fans in mind. I believe this now more than ever after this telephone call. Mr. Solomon was very candid during our conversation and I do believe that he along with the band had the best of intentions when trying to figure out a way to pay for the new visual show. Plus, this gives people who normally wouldnt have a chance to get into a meet and greet the perfect opprotunity.

#3. According to Mr. Solomon there are roughly 100 of the gold and bronze packages available to each show. So there are still LOTS of great seats in the general ticket pool available to the rest of us.

Plenty of chances to get good seats from the general ticket pool and through your friendly neighborhood broker as always. You always have the option of waiting by the busses after the show for autographs, pics, etc. I believe that during the summer when they package up with another act, the gold option would actually be very nice if you're used to using brokers.

Yeah, the info on the DT site regarding the premium packages is pretty sparse (at best). I just copied and pasted here, since I know there are fellow avid DT fans on this board.

It's a shame there are so few premium seat packages available to those that want them, but I'm happy just to get to see them again. They always kick ass live.

arriba!

thanks for the info!
Gotta decide whether to see em at the Warfield this year.

I've loved the last 2 shows...

Looks like it is. What's with all the tours skipping Texas these days?

Rypro 525 03-04-04 11:51 AM

how long do their shows normally go

Just short of forever. On their last tour with Queensr˙che, our show was easily 4 and a half hours. Considering they're the only performer, and they are somewhat insane, I'd expect around 3 and half hours (90 mins, intermission, 90 minutes, break, encore).

Crazy Aoshi 03-04-04 01:17 PM

Yeah, that sounds about right. We saw them last night in the Roseland in Portland, OR. We just got GA tickets, the more expensive tickets were in the balcony, ours were standing in a crowd right in front of the stage. So if you got there earlier or were more agressive, you could get closer.

Jersey 03-11-04 08:22 PM

I've seen them twice before and I'm going to the Milwaukee show on the 18th. They put on a great show!

Jason 03-24-04 01:35 PM

Went to the Palace Theater show last night in Greensburg, PA. Going into this show, I knew precisely 1 DT song (Pull Me Under). I was very impressed by these guys. Petrucci is one incredible guitar player who deserves a lot more recognition than he gets. I really enjoyed the extended jam sessions.

The show ran for 90 minutes, followed by a 15 minute intermission (which turned into a half hour due to video projector problems) an hour set, and a 15-20 minute encore. The I thought that both the band and the crowd (close to a sellout) were a little flat early on, but both really warmed up as the evening progressed.

das Monkey 03-24-04 01:43 PM

Glad you enjoyed it.

So, can we get this thread renamed to "Dream Theater Partial US Tour Because They Hate the South and Texas in 2004" please?

das
