Crazy in Love by far, with In Da Club Second.
Lose Yourself and Picture are the only songs in the poll I can stand at all. |
C'mon, where's the "All of the Above" option? ;)
|
My god, that is by far the worst list of music I have ever seen.
|
40 songs on the HOT 50 songs of 2003 are rap and R&B
Once again I remind myself why I hate American music. |
Albums that I have:
1. GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' 50 Cent 5. LET GO Avril Lavigne 8. FALLEN Evanescence [CD-R copy] 14. THE EMINEM SHOW Eminem 23. AUDIOSLAVE Audioslave [CD-R copy] 35. ELV1S: 30 #1 HITS Elvis Presley 38. i picked other because basically, all the songs on the top 9, are crap. I picked hey ya.

gerrythedon, thought since you posted yours, here are the ones I have.
None are copies but some are from Columbia House. 3 UP! Damn! that's alot of them... Cool, U have 8 of my 13.:)
|
17 A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD Coldplay 23 AUDIOSLAVE Audioslave 29 SPEAKERBOXXX / THE LOVE BELOW OutKast 83 HAIL TO THE THIEF Radiohead 85 ON AND ON Jack Johnson 95 ONE BY ONE Foo Fighters I can't believe Outkast's "Hey Ya" isn't on the Hot 50 songlist - that was the catchiest song I've heard in a long time. |
Originally posted by vdadlani219 I only counted 33. But I voted for: SHAKE YA TAILFEATHER Nelly, P. Diddy & Murphy Lee Only because it was in Bad Boys 2 about 8 times (which I sat through twice, ugh) So let's just even it out and say 35 [in between 33 and 38] Still, the media is pretty dominated by rap and R&B And the only non rap songs on here are one or two country songs, some "punk rock" songs, and alternarock.. So it's kind of sad, meaning hard rock, metal, pop, and dance are genre with no hope in USA. |
That's weird...I get 33 too. And I wouldn't consider the Foos & Audioslave "alternarock"...they are hard rock. As for Metal, it's been dead since the 80s. Also, pop music has an impressive showing on the chart. Then again, you're interpretation of genres and mine could be, and probably are, vastly different.
ANYways, out of the "Top" 100 , i've only purchased 9: 2 COME AWAY WITH ME Norah Jones 8 FALLEN Evanescence 29 SPEAKERBOXXX / THE LOVE BELOW OutKast 39 SHAMAN Santana 65 SOME DEVIL Dave Matthews 86 HOTEL PAPER Michelle Branch 92 LIFE FOR RENT Dido 93 LOVE & LIFE Mary J. Blige 95 ONE BY ONE Foo Fighters But, I might be returning Mary J. Blige. |
49, 48, 47, 45, 44, 35, 33, 27, 18, 10, 9, 6, 5 on [TOP 50 list]
Songs that are not rap or R&B, 13, leaving 37 songs that are R&B /ROCK And yeah, my definition of pop is probably different..to me..Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones, and Christina Aguilera really do not write or perform pop music, much less good one...Clarkson has too much R&B/ballad influence, Christina Aguilera is very R&B too, Norah Jones is leaning towards jazz/blues, and Clay Aiken is more like adult contemporary/pop ballad.. I am talking of course about the top 50 songs list..the top 100 album list does have lots of pop and rock on it..and lots of rereleases It's still very scary [at least to me] that the lists are dominated by rap and R&B..as someone who writes and plays and listens to pop/dance pop and hard rock..it's seems very scary that I might not be able to get into the actual media one day |
Originally posted by B.A.hist These are the only ones on that list that I have. I can't believe Outkast's "Hey Ya" isn't on the Hot 50 songlist - that was the catchiest song I've heard in a long time. Congratulations on actually having good taste in music. |
Ones I have:
17 A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD Coldplay 71 BACK IN THE U.S. LIVE 2002 Paul McCartney (well I got the DVD) 75 THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS The All-American Rejects 85 ON AND ON Jack Johnson 89 BY THE WAY Red Hot Chili Peppers |
Does "overplayed" imply that we can't stand it? Certainly "Hey Ya!" and "Crazy In Love" (and possibly "Rock Your Body") are played often but they are great! As far as "overplayed" is concerned - "In Da Club." I'm still going to vote Other because that "Get Low" song by Lil' John & Eastside Boys has to be *one* of the worst-yet-widely-enjoyed songs of 2003.

Originally posted by fallow I'm very confused by this statement. Do you think that the only way to get published is to write about pop? In other words, it looks like my group would be very hard to sell in America. Dance pop and hard rock seem to be dying genre in the face of a rap/R&B dominated MTV/VH1 and top 40 radio... I wanted the teenie bopper phase to end..but I didn't want it to become this..it seemed like the first half of the 90's..and even in between..were much better years for music |
Whoops, the only place in this poll where it stated the actual poll question was at the top of the poll, not in the thread title or 1st thread. I just assumed it was "which one do you like most". So in essence, I voted for the opposite of what the poll was for. :)
|
Kind of surprised how many of those I actually own.
Looking at the list it's interesting that nothing off of Norah Jones' or Shania Twain's albums (#2 and #3) made the Top 50 singles. das |
57 ELEPHANT The White Stripes
that is the only cd I own off of that list, and I probably purchased about 100 cd's this year. |
I chose other, Baby Boy was overplayed.
