Best songs from the 90s?

I have a great collection of 60's, 70's and 80's music, but my collection of 90's music is seriously lacking. What are your favorites? PLEASE GIVE BOTH THE TITLE AND ARTIST. Anything from Vanilla Ice to Green Day, etc..

Thanks

Here are the top 100 charts for each year, if that helps. http://top40.about.com/cs/90shits/

They are heavily balanced toward pop, but the other genres are represented.

...to name just a few. The 90's pop scene was fantastic!

(and if you're looking to start a compilation of 21st century songs, start with Promise by Eve 6.)

mariakitty 01-06-04 07:55 PM

I'm a Britpop girl, so here are my 90's faves:

Any single by Blur
"Disco 2000" and "Common People" by Pulp
The Definitely Maybe album by Oasis
Big Calm (album) - Morcheeba
OK Computer (album) and The Bends (album) - Radiohead

I'm having a brain fade, but there are so many great singles out of the UK in the 90's that it would take forever to post them. But if you are interested in that sort of thing I will give it a shot. ;)

How could I forget Duran Duran! They were incredible in the 80's, had a great (and successful) comback in the 90's and in 2004 they are going to rock the world on tour!

Pearl Jam - Jeremy

Sums up the feel and mood of the 90's quite well.

Wow, this is hard. About 450 of my 1100 albums are from the 90s. So many great genres emerged and/or evolved--Britpop, trip-hop, alt. country, rave, grunge. This was the decade of Nirvana, Tricky, Liz Phair, Uncle Tupelo, etc. I can't pick one song or one album or one mood. It'll be a shame if the 90s are remembered as the decade of grunge and gloom, because there's so much more to it than that.

This may be on the 80s/90s border, I'm not sure, but i think Nothing Compares To You by Sinead O'Connor is one of the most moving songs of the decade.
