Shania Twain's sales status finally on Billboard

As an avid Billboard reader, I wrote here many many months ago that I found it odd Shania Twain's latest, "Up!" never showed it's sales status. Even though the first few weeks it was reported it sold close to (or around) 500,000 each week. Still, after that, there was no gold or platinum symbol next to it on the charts. And never did, until this week. After 56 weeks, and currently at #43 on the album charts, it has a diamond symbol with a 10 next to it. Meaning, it's sold 10 million copies so far. And counting. Again, just thought it was strange this was never published until now.

Wondering why she won the Billboard award last week.

Is that worldwide or just the US sales? I know she is a popular artist, and I don't listen to her so I wouldn't really know, but I was under the assumption that this album didn't really do that well. I guess that was way off lol.

I would guess worldwide sales. I love Shania but even I don't own this cd yet.

No guys, this is U.S. sales ONLY! Just checked RIAA and her last two albums (before "Up!") sold well over 10 million each as well. "The Woman in Me" sold 12 million and "Come on Over" sold 19 million (!!!) And get this, RIAA *still* doesn't show "Up!" even going Gold yet. Bizarre.

UP! sold 5 million copies in the US but since it's a double cd it was certified 10x platinum.

So does this make her the biggest selling female artist of all time? I would think with numbers like those she will be hard to touch.

Are they counting each "Up!" disc as two CDs, since it was a double album? I remember Garth Brooks released a double live album a few years ago and that's what Billboard did. Or maybe I'm imagining it - it has been a while.

It doesn't hurt having in my opinion the greatest music producer of all time on board - Robert John "Mutt" Lange - Some of the best album's in Rock & Roll history are produced by this genius, including shania's last three album's, which i think are excellent album's, she keep's getting better with each release...

Yeah, I've been kinda monitoring sales of Up! on Billboard. It's been a year and it wasn't even gold. Billboard seems to have been very slow lately. Several other artists have done well yet it's not noted on the charts. It they doubled Shania's they must have doubled Outkast's album to come up with 6x platinum certification.

Is this true? Double albums are automatically multiplied by two in sales status??

If it counts double, that is really stupid. Doesn't each of these 2 discs carry the same songs, just different versions. If so, it is even more stupid to count them twice.

The thing with Up! is that there are three (3) CDs that are in the two (2) CD release. The western hemisphere received Pop and Country, wild the other half of of the world received World. Blue, Red, and Green were the respective colors of the CDs.

10 million, no matter the number if it is certified Diamond, is only the US sales because 500,000 units will get you Platinum in the UK when you need 1,000,000 to get the same status in the US.

Shania Green is made of people!

This doesn't really sound fair. An artist can release any double album, and have it count as 2 seperate sales? Even if it is a double CD with different material it still shouldn't count, as you're not given a choice. I mean, did anyone only buy ONE of the records from the White Album?

I'm sure somebody will give me a reasonable response...

Now, if she'd only release the much more interesting World version in the U.S. It sounds alot better from the demos than the bland and repetitive Country and Rock versions.

Or as I like to refer to him... "Mr. Formula".

I'd be a happier man if I never hear another recording produced by him again. I'd call him a genius in marketing respects, not artistically.

That's how I understood it as well. Double albums (CD's) are counted 2x....

But...5 million is still pretty damn good.
