Need some help from someone who actually KNOWS music (classic rock)

Ok, my gramps found this bag on the road once and it was full of cassette tapes, all recorded. Well one was a Depeche Mode tape and thats how I got introduced to DM. But the very last song on the tape wasnt DM, but a classic rock group. I REALLY loved this song and heard it all the time. Problem is, I never knew who it was, nor did anyone in my family. That was about 10 years ago and now that I remmeber it, the tape with that song has been lost or re recorded over. I still remember it very well and I'll describe it to those who may know who the group is.

Piano intro

verse sounded like: "Play that game tonight, do you see yourself in the right spot now."

Chorus: "is it worth the time, is it worth the price?"

Shit, its really hard to describe over a computer. The groups sounds like an 'Eagles' group and I aways thought it was them, but its not

I totally feel like Al Bundy asking everyone the song hes thinking of just by humming a few bars "huh huh hhyymmmmm"

So, can anyone help me out here?

Play the Game Tonight by Kansas (pics)
You think that something's happening
And it's bigger than your life
But it's only what you're hearing
Will you still remember
When the morning light has come
Will the songs be playing over and over
Till you do it all over again
CHORUS :
Play , play the game tonight
Can you tell me if it's wrong or right
Is it worth the time , is it worth the price
Do you see yourself in the white spotlight
Then play the game tonight
And when the curtains open
To the roaring of the crowd
You will feel it all around you
Then it finally happens
And it's all come true for you
And the songs are playing over and over
Till you do it all over again
CHORUS

Wow... All I can say is wow! I didnt think anyone would get that, especially so damn quick. What surpirses me I never guessed Kansas and I love Dust in the Wind and Carry on my Wayward sun.

Did you get that from memory or just did some kind of song lyric search? Either way, thanks 1000xs! I bow to you...

Here is an easy MO. Google the lyric you know in quotations. Sometimes it helps to put 'lyrics' or '+ lyrics' beside it, but you can usually strike gold w/o.

if you do do the google search and you are only doing lyrics, make sure to put the quotation in quotation marks... assuming the passage you are quoting is the correct words in the correct order...

many times on these forums, a song somebody doesn't know, could be somebody elses favorite song of all time.
