Re: Metallica "Some Kind of Monster" Documentary to debut at Sundance Festival

I know this is a huge bump, but I caught his last night.

This is obviously old news, but I couldn't help to understand the issues they were all having. The three of them are typical type A personalities, Kirk included but in a different way. After 20 years together I'm surprised it took this long for all this to come out. The scene with Dave Mustaine and Lars was awesome. I feel for the guy. Lars' realization that Jason could be the future and Metallica could be the past if they don't straighten out was a good revelation.

I don't know why if fascinated me, but the scene where Lars was selling his paintings and how much they were selling for. He obviously has a career after music.

I mostly remember this doc as what made me understand how it was possible for Metallica to realse something as shitty as St. Anger.
What a bunch of crazy, whiny loons.

I've owned this for years and never watched it. I need to remedy that.

This documentary is EMO personified, an utter embarrassment. There are so many cringe worthy moments that I lost count. A shitty documentary about the making of an even shittier album.

And so I did.

Watched it this weekend. I've been in a MAJOR Metallica mood after watching all the Fillmore clips on YouTube. This was a fantastic doc. Even though I've been a fan of the band for almost 20 years, it was very fascinating to see how they all act as real people. I don't think they get enough credit for being so good to their fans, too. Lots of big moments in there, so many that I didn't want it to end. Those 2 1/2 hours flew right by.

Kirk's face palm is one of favorite moments.

"The two totally distinct types of visionaries, it's like fire and ice, and I feel my role in the band is to be kind of the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water."

Another Ten Year Milestone

Last week we celebrated the ten year anniversary of LiveMetallica.com and we're back today with another milestone announcement, this time the re-release of our film Some Kind of Monster on November 24, 2014. The film will be available digitally and via Video On Demand for the very first time and for those of you who still like to have one to hold in your hands, there will be two-disc Blu-Ray and DVD sets at your favorite retail outlets and in the Metallica.com store.

A lot has happened since 2004 and we’ll bring you up to speed by including the feature "Metallica: This Monster Lives," a 25-minute follow-up piece filmed at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 during the release of our second film, Metallica Through the Never. It includes interview footage with us along with directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky and looks at the decade since the original release of the film. This feature along with the full film and all the extras from the original 2005 DVD release will be included on the Blu-ray and DVD. This is also that the first time the film will be available on Blu-ray. "Metallica: This Monster Lives" will also be available along with the original film on the digital releases.

I'd love to see a poem about that?

That's fairly standard for documentaries.

A Loss in the Family
February 21, 2015

We lost a valued member of our family today as award winning filmmaker Bruce Sinofsky passed away this morning.

Bruce, along with Joe Berlinger, was the architect of our film Some Kind of Monster. Smart, funny and dedicated, Bruce was with us almost every day in the early 2000's and was an integral part of helping us to navigate the rough waters during those times. Although not very welcomed at times, he was there through some of the darkest times of Metallica. He became a dedicated comfort and visual lifeboat, while objectively observing the unraveling and rebuilding of our inner and outer selves. We admired Bruce and Joe's work in Brother's Keeper, but of course were blown away by what Bruce and Joe accomplished with the Paradise Lost trilogy of films. With their relentless work and attention to detail, Bruce and Joe's films drew attention to the miscarriages of justice associated with the trial of three teens accused of murder and helped to lead to their eventual release from prison after over 18 years behind bars.

After Some Kind of Monster, Bruce went on to do more brilliant work on the Sundance Channel series Iconoclasts, and History's 10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America along with numerous other film and television projects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce's family and friends. We will miss Bruce. A courageous man with deep empathy and wisdom who wasn't afraid to dig deep to tell the story.

RIP Bruce.
