Lost in Translation - new Kevin Shields stuff sounds just like old My Bloody Valentine, the rest of the disc is great too
Morvern Callar - nice mix of krautrock, bliss and electronic with Boards of Canada
Vanilla Sky, Singles - most Cameron Crowe films have excellent soundtracks. Vanilla Sky has Radiohead, REM, Sigur Ros, Leftfield, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney and lots more. Singles pretty much represents the entire Seattle scene of the late 80s, early 90s.
Lost Highway - a soundtrack as schizophrenic as the film, highlights are Lou Reed's "This Magic Moment" and Smashing Pumpkins' "Eye"
Pi - IDM heaven, Aphex Twin, Autechre, etc
Trainspotting - Britpop and techno. Underworld's "Born Slippy" is the highlight
Scores:
Run Lola Run - best techno score ever
Requiem for a Dream - Clint Mansell from Pop Will Eat Itself and the Kronos Quartet, a very haunting and agitated score
25th Hour - I think I like this one because of the arabic tinged music used during the Ground Zero scenes. Very haunting.
Twin Peaks - Angelo Badalamenti and his synth, another haunting score
Mulholland Drive - this one's a mixed score and soundtrack disc. The best track is Rebekah Del Rio's "Llorando", an absolutely devastating a capella rendition of Roy Orbison's "Crying"

Electric Dreams -- I'm not a retro 80s person, but this has some cool music... Electric Dreams by PP Arnold, Video and Let it Run by Jeff Lynne, The Dream and Love is Love by Culture Club, Now You're Mine by Helen Terry, Chase Runner by Heaven 17, and Together in Electric Dreams by Phlip Oakey.
I also quite enjoyed most of the Down to You soundtrack, which includes the title song (`It All Comes Down to You') from my favourite singer Billie Myers.

Re: Favorite movie soundtrack of all time?
I was surprised to find no mentions of Once or Tron: Legacy, and then I realized that the thread is almost 13 years old.
I'll throw in Memories of Murder as well.

Re: Favorite movie soundtrack of all time?
the first CD i ever purchased and got before i even had a player was the Backdraft soundtrack. there are 2 songs by Bruce Hornsby and the Range that i love and the score by Hans Zimmer (who i love to this day because of this), i think was just fantastic. it was the first time i really listened to the music in a movie and have it move me and made the movie (one of my all-time favorites) that much more powerful...
