"The greatest blues rock voice ever to grace a white boy"
In the Zep thread Hiro11 nominated Robert Plant for this and I was wondering who else was wothy of the mantle. I think "staying power" is important i.e. how long have they been around and can they still sing. The first few alternatives that came to mind - admittedly with very little thought - were:

Glenn Hughes
Paul Rodgers
Graham Bonnet

Opinions/Thoughts?

I pick Gregg Allman as my favorite.
I like Clapton's voice as much as his guitar. Stevie Ray had a good blues voice. Mick Jagger did some great blues. Boz Scaggs on "Loan Me A Dime" is excellent. |
Deep Purple / Whitesnake's - David Coverdale has my vote.
My second choice:

Stevie Ray Vaughn
Chris Robinson of the black crowes
Rod Stewart
Michael McDonald
Steve Marriott

That dude who fronted The Committments. Wow, what a voice.
He was sixteen when they filmed that movie. |
Jeff Buckley, and his father Tim Buckley - though both were not necessarily considered "blues", perhaps.
I've gotta go with Boz Scaggs
as much as i hate to say it: Johnny Lang
I'll go with Jonny Lang!!!
SRV
Gregg Allman or SRV
Joe Cocker
John Mayall Rod Stewart Take your pick. Though either Cocker and Stewart could contend for the Blackest Voice to Eminate from a Caucasian award. |
