Metal Song of the Day (9/22-9/26)

"Bang Go the Bells" by Babylon A.D. from 1989's Babylon A.D.
Babylon A.D. were the purveyors of some of the finest sleeze metal ever released during the '80s. Of course being a cut above the rest but coming in late to the party pretty much doomed them to obscurity from the beginning, which is why most people haven't heard of them. Babylon A.D. was their debut album and was filled to the brim with big hooks, sleazy lyrics and a pretty good sense of humor. "Bang Go the Bells" is the killer opening track with an amazingly simple riff that sticks in your head the way few riffs can. A pean to a dirty woman ("I just get one taste of you / Bang Go the Bells") the song just rocks (and would probably play well in strip clubs). The CD has some other quality moments, most notably "Back In Babylon" and the not too sappy power-ballad "Desperate". Unfortunately Babylon A.D.'s second album Nothing Sacred tried the same formula but with less memorable songs and the band all but disappeared.
