I wouldn't use it to download the latest top-40 songs, but you can keep on downloading video clips of barely-legal chicks doing horses.

"really you downloaded those files from me on 04/04/01? Oh I had a lan party that week, we were about 20 people behind my router.. Sorry, cant help you."

Has anyone else been having problems signing on to Soulseek lately? I've been unable to for the past 2 weeks.

they were having server issues - add these lines to your hosts file:

38.115.131.131 sk2.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 www.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 mail.slsk.org
38.115.131.131 server.slsk.org

that should fix the problem. There's a downloadable fix on their website.

Thanks for the tip

• Bobby McFerrin, "Don't Worry, Be Happy"
• Thompson Twins, "Hold Me Now"
• Eagles, "Hotel California"
• George Michael, "Kissing A Fool"
• Paula Abdul, "Knocked Out"
• Green Day, "Minority"
• UB40, "Red Red Wine"
• Ludacris "Area Codes"
• Marvin Gaye, "Sexual Healing"
• Avril Lavigne, "Complicated"

Heh, makes me feel great. I downloaded all of those excluding Paula Abdul and the Thompson Twins lol

Sorry... try here...

Oh - looks like they moved - here's their new site - http://www.slsknet.org/ :D Download the new program from there (under 1mb) and install over your old one. It works just fine - no fix necessary.

huzefa 09-17-03 05:22 PM

The problem with kazaa is its just too easy to use now. Meanwhile for the rest of us 3llt3 users, we still have BT, Soulseek, IRC and ftp sites. Muhahahahah...

Penny Lane 09-18-03 11:42 AM

Soulseek

I've tried using soulseek a few different times and don't think it's all that great. I get lots of hits on titles, but most are greyed out, thereby making them usless. I still get better results and faster downloads on kazaalite, although I don't like the newest version. It slows my system down. If all people are worried about is getting busted on kazaa, there are lots of ways to avoid that. As long as I get better results with it, I'll keep using it.

OMG who cares, he said "great post" not "great article you wrote!"

I'd say no. The media and the RIAA is trying to make it sound like a lot of people are getting hit, but the logistics state that filing lawsuits for EVERY P2P user at a rate of 7 per day, not taking days off for weekends and holidays, would take several thousand years. The odds of you getting nailed are low.

Not to mention the fact that they're not going after people that download, they're only hitting people that SHARE their files. They can't go after you for downloading, because it's too easy to get your hands on the actual CD's and say "See? I own these CD's, I just wanted MP3's of them also, which is my right."

I intend to keep using Kazaa like I always have, which is to download music that I'm curious about. If I like it, I'll go buy the CD. If I don't like it, I'll delete it. If the only good song is the radio single, and the rest is filler crap, I'll keep the song and not buy the CD. They tried to rip me off by selling me a CD of junk, so I feel no guilt in keeping the song.

sararekuforever 09-21-03 01:20 PM

The real reason that RIAA should not stop MP3

I bought "Hilary Duff" just because I downloaded a full album copy. Had I never heard it, I would have never touched it and dismissed it as Britney Spears like material. After listening once, with the intent of ranting about how bad Hilary's album was, I started to like it, a lot. So like a little girl, I went and bought it for $9.64 the day it came out. All thanks to MP3, they got one more sale.

But really, it's good considering who made it, I expected much worse.

greyed out does not mean useless... it just means you have to wait in line. Big whoop. If you think kazaa is better, then go right ahead and keep using it.
