Need some help finding "southern gospel" music....

I was forced to watch VeggieTales Jonah about 6 times this weekend, and the gospel song that the angels sand in the belly of the whale was fantastic. I want to describe it as "Big Black Gospel" if that makes any better sense. The music is similar to the stuff from Sister Act with Whoopi.

Is there a good collection of similar music? Anyone else enjoy this stuff?

Does she have a choir singing backup? Sounds good

If you like that "big choir sound", lots of the Kirk Franklin live albums should be to your tastes..

Many standards in gospel oriented churches are Kirk Franklin

Melodies of Heaven, He's Able, Revolution, Stomp, Thank You, We Fall Down, etc

Also, Shirley Caesar, Mahalia Jackson, etc

I am not really into the music much, but my choir based its shows on it and I know of this through them

There are several Aretha Franklin albums of gospel songs, including the incredible 'Amazing Grace', with double live album with full choir. The Blind Boys of Alabama are also very good, been around forever. And for a good primer, see the movie "Say Amen Somebody" and get that soundtrack, it's an outstanding documentary on gospel music!
