Time for a new BEATLES Compilation - Classic Album Cuts!!

I think it is time for a new Beatles compilation. Before, there was the Red 1962-1966 and Blue 1967-1970 albums in 1973 (re-released in CD form in 1993), which compiled a great amount of music - including #1's and Top 10's.

Then, in 2000, came #1's - which included 27 No.1 hits from the U.S. and the U.K. (the group only had 20 #1 hits in the States, and the rest in the U.K.). While it is great to have a remastered disc of chart-toppers, there is much omitted from the two hits compilations I've listed.

What we need now is The Beatles: The Best Album Cuts, so that we can have the following songs remastered and on one disc - a companion piece to the above compilations.

There were, after all, masterpieces on their albums that were never released as singles, and they've never made it to one of the hits compilations. Such songs could include (and these are my personal faves):

1) No Reply
2) Should've Known Better
3) I'll Be Back
4) If I Fell
5) Maxwell's Silver Hammer
6) I'm Looking Through You
7) Revolution 1
8) Sexy Sadie
9) When I'm 64
10) Golden Slumbers
11) Carry That Weight
12) Got To Get You Into My Life (a classic!)
13) Piggies
14) Helter Skelter
15) I'm So Tired
16) Rocky Raccoon
17) Cry Baby Cry
18) Birthday
19) You Won't See Me
20) Two of Us
21) Baby You're A Rich Man
22) Act Naturally (a decent Ringo song)

I have bought most of the full-length albums that contain these songs, but it would be cool to have them all on one disc, ala #1's. If this is in the works, my day would be made!

Half of those songs are on the White Album. I'd just buy the White Album instead of a compilation. Maxwell's Silver Hammer is one of the worst Beatles songs, IMO

When I first heard Maxwell's Silver Hammer, I was dumbfounded by the context of the song - it was about murder! I don't know if it was written and laid down before or after the Charles Manson trial, but it is practically a homage. Lyrics: ...Maxwell stands alone, painting testimonial pictures, Rose and Valerie screaming from the gallery, say he must go free "Maxwell Must Go Free...

And the Beatles sing the song gleefully!

I dunno, what's the point exactly? Beatles fans already own all of the albums... And for casual fans, well, they should buy all the albums as well... They rarely cut a bad tune. Now, remastering, I can get behind that idea - BUT - the focus at this point in time should be in getting DVD-A or SACD versions of The Beatles catalog on the market. 5.1 remixes, not another greatest hits album.

My major problem with the current masters, is that theyre a little too stereo, give me a mono track anyday over these crappy 87 stereo masters.

I agree that we need a proper remastering and re-release of ALL Beatles material, Rolling Stones style.

The last I had heard about a Beatles compilation was an album called "2", which would be a collection of all the Beatles singles that only hit #2. With George Harrison passing away, however, I have heard that the project has either been put on hold or scrapped. That being said, I'd love to see some Beatles remasters, preferably supervised by Paul and Ringo like Jimmy Page did with his Led Zep material. I have the giant box set of all their studio material but I would gladly buy another remastered set regardless of cost.

2?? Jeez, the Beatles only had three #2 singles in the United States: Twist and Shout, Do You Want to Know A Secret, and Yellow Submarine.

It would be an EP. A very small one.

All I want or need is a companion to "1" that has everything else on the red & blue discs.
