SWEET! Jaz is a god. Man, Dave Grohl is like stink on shyte these days.

atlantamoi 08-05-03 09:01 AM

Dave Grohl? Interesting. I saw them live in '89. I thought they were old back then... woah. Jaz was wearing a plastic janitor-like outfit. Speaking of, I recently saw the video for "Eighties"... that song is still pretty sweet.

Numanoid 08-05-03 09:23 AM

Oh yeah! Killing Joke is one of my all-time faves. Truly awesome rocking power, although Jaz kind of freaked out there in the early '90s, trying to start his own philosophical movement and what not. I'll definitely be "picking this up" for old-time's sake.

Mordred 08-05-03 10:32 AM

I think from now on it would be easier if we just listed the albums that Dave Grohl doesn't play drums on.

Mutley Hyde 08-05-03 10:39 AM

Killing Joke live is wicked, no matter their inconsistent studio output over the ages. Last time I saw 'em was on Pandemonium... great friggin' show!

(but the Extremeties show was the schitt)

I'll definitley check out the cd, and didn't know one was coming out - thanks!

This got a 5/5 in the UK mag Classic Rock. It was the only 5 star review of the 40 or so new releases reviewed in this month's issue. So I'm interested.

I think it's kind of funny how KJ sued Nirvana (and won, btw) over stealing the riff from '80s in Come As You Are, and now Grohl is playing for them.

Heh. Totally forgot about that. You really can hear the riff in "Eighties". That's really funny.

And it wasn't just the riff---it was the same effects on the guitar sound, too---I take Killing Joke's side on that one.

I'm curious to hear this one. I love Killing Joke when the guitars sound new-wavey and Jaz sings. I do not like Killing Joke when the guitars sound like Metallica and Jaz screams. I loved Night Time, Brighter than a Thousand Suns and was pleasantly surprised by Democracy (Medicine Wheel kicks a$$!!)----I really did not like much on Millenium.

Bingo.

That's exactly what it sounds like. Only he yells more than he screams. Which is too bad, because I like his singing voice a lot.

Heh, then I guess you guys are disappointed with the new one. I like it. :) Straight ahead rockin'. The music may not be as creative or intricate as on Pandemonium or Extremities, but it's definitley powerful. Very Ramonesesque in it's locomotive rhythm, and Grohl's bombastic drums are a good match.

But sorry, it's definitley 'eavy metal Jaz.

Ky-Fi 11-01-03 12:36 PM

OK, I got the new album, and it's a bit heavy for my tastes---I really wish Jaz would sing more. But.....this is TIGHT songwriting. Very catchy songs, good choruses. I find this to be a really strong album---I like it as well as Democracy, and a lot better than Pandemonium.

I also saw Killing Joke in concert in Boston last weekend. Geordie is the coolest guitarist this side of Billy Zoom, Jaz is insane, and Raven looked like he was ready to beat the sh*t out of somebody all night. A great, intense stage presence, and a pretty good sound. I was a bit disappointed that they did not play ANYTHING from their mid 80's work----almost all early stuff (Wardance, Psyche, Follow the Leader, Requiem), and the new stuff---everything heavy. I would have liked to have seen more of their awesome range, but it was still well-worth checking out.

Killing Joke live is an exceptional experience. I've seen 'em twice, once for Extremities, and then again for Pandemonium. They simply are not to be missed.

Looks like I'll have to miss 'em this time around though :(
