Okay I love Johnny Cash and that video, and MTV does not deserve to have him on their lists.

JestersTear 07-24-03 07:38 PM

Johnny Cash is, and always has been, the man.

He's a true rebel. These punks that act all rebellious these days are doing it in a coldly calculated way to get maximum sales. Johnny did it because that's who he was.

these categories matter, why...?

Say what you will about the quality of the actual music. but the music videos are worthy of note and deserve the recognition MTV awards afford them. We still have some definite artists creating videos today, and their futures will be very rewarding.

Like Chris Rock once said. "Okay, so the band might suck... but hey! It had good lighting!"

Do Ilike all the choices? No. But that's not to say a fair few of those nominees more than deserve their accolades.

conscience 07-24-03 08:32 PM

Part of the MTV staff I see.

raiders757 07-24-03 09:50 PM

I voted for None of this Crap, Where's Johnny Cash.

Award shows are nothing more than a way to sell more CD's. Weather it be the Grammy's, or MTV. A great marketing ploy, that all the the sheeply pop music fans buy into. Awards help sell more records, that's why these overglorified shows get so much attention. Any how, Johnny Cash can fart a better tune, than anyone mentioned on MTV's list of crud. MTV is a joke.

Rypro 525 07-24-03 11:06 PM

anyone got a link to the Johnny Cash video? I've heard about it but haven't seen it yet

MJKTool 07-24-03 11:12 PM

It seems that from the article, it has played on MTV2...but I have never seen it played (but I don't watch that channel that much.)

We all know the only reason we watch these shows is for the women and to see what slutty outfits they have on this year. All the presenters and winners do is plug their album or movie.

Btw, best line by Chris Rock ever (and one that pretty much sums up todays music industry) just after Britney Spears and N'Sync played "Britney Spears and N'Sync ... why do they bother having microphones on?" I almost pissed my pants when he said that.

I still think the classic moment ever was last year when Puff Daddy and his buddies were lipsyncing. Um, your rapping. Why do you need to lipsync that? I mean, i can see if a singer can't hit a note, but your just talking. Someone please explain this to me.

I will be watching this year for Metallica. I'm one of the 8 people that actually liked St. Anger.

And I have to watch so that the next day I can read Bill Simmons article about the show and know what he's talking about. If you haven't read him, go check him out on ESPN's Page 2. He's the funniest journalist i've read.

Exactly. Notice all the categories are "Best _______ VIDEO not best song, best record, best artist etc.

These awards are to recognize the videos, not the songs.

Rogue588 08-28-03 10:34 AM

BUMP for tonite..

I am eagerly anticipating ALL of tonite's performances..-rolleyes-

Actually, I AM anticipating Rock's hosting..

Well, paintings are silent, and there are some great silent films. ;)

IMO, a great video should be judged on the visuals, and how well it goes with the song, not the quality of the song.

Rypro 525 08-28-03 05:51 PM

wonder if anyone is gonna either show off their ass in some way or another, or wear something so tight and revealing, we will all wonder "how did that stay on".

demonio 08-28-03 07:16 PM

oh god, that entire list is horrible, I blocked MTV a long time ago though.

I want my Kerrang TV
