Today's CDs (7/21)

Just 3 more hours until the Modest Mouse show, and I'm anxious.

!!! - Me and Giuliani Down by the Schoolyard (a true story)
Ex Models - Zoo Psychology
Les Savy Fav - Rome (written upside down) & 3/5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
Contortions - Buy the Contortions

QOTD #1: Do you ever wonder if other people feel that the Today's CDs thread is exclusive? It seems like we have a regular cast of members in here.

QOTD #2: Who has heard The Exploding Hearts' disc and how is it? I'm sure everyone has heard about the tragedy by now, but their album has jumped up on my priority list because of it. That's probably a bad reason to want it, but 20 is a great age to rely on bad reasons with great conviction.

-edit to add-

QOTD #3: After thinking about it for a minute, I realized that every single album I'm listening to today is from NYC. So, do you listen to many artists from a particular geographical area? It seems the majority of my collection comes from NYC, Chicago and the Northwest (eg: K Records).

R.E.M.-Lifes Rich Pageant
R.E.M.-New Adventures in Hi-Fi (highly underrated masterpiece, IMO. E-Bow and Leave are among the best songs ever written)
Radiohead-Hail to the Thief
Blur-Blur
Eminem-The Eminem Show

Answers:
1. Not really. Some people's opinions on music here are more respected and they get asked questions. Nothing wrong with that.

2. Not me.

3. The majority of my collection comes from the UK.

The Clientele - "The Violet Hour" (not living up to the hype, for me at least)
VA - "Kindercore 50, WeThankYou"
The Blow - "Bonus Album"
Haley Bonar - "...The Size of Planets"
All Girl Summer Fun Band - "2"
Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire - "Oh! The Grandeur"

Answers
1) Yes, I wonder.

2) Haven't heard it, and just read about what happened. Crazy. I assume you've heard the mp3s at their official site, right?

3) Pacific Northwest, Chicago, NYC, and Toronto (Hidden Cameras, Royal City, and some other band I can't think of right now have been on heavy rotation lately)

Jon Auer/Ken Stringfellow - Private Sides (this album cover cracks me up!)
The Clientele - Violet Hour
Elvis Costello - Trust
Robyn Hitchcock - Eye
Damien Jurado - Where Shall You Take Me?
Pixies - Come on Pilgrim
R.E.M. - Reveal (watching performance vids on launch last night got me in the mood for this one)
Songs: Ohia - Songs: Ohia
Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power (picked it up last Saturday...awesome album! Can't wait to pick up the DVD tomorrow!)

A's OTD:
1) I pop in and out of these threads, and while a majority of posters seem to have similar tastes, you still get other people with different tastes...I guess some may feel intimidated to post?

2) Read the news on Pitchfork this morning...never heard their stuff, though.

3) I tend to rely on record label rather than geographical area...I usually find a better variety of a certain type of sound going by record label.

1) occasionally

2) I have heard it, and think that it's a decent garage-y power-pop album.

3) It seems like a lot of my collection is made up of Chicago (I live there) and NYC-area artists.

Shellac - "1000 Hurts"
Spacemen 3 - "Perfect Prescription"
Big Star - "#1 Record/Radio City"
The Kinks - "Lola..."

Kings of Leon - Holy Roller Novocaine
Guster - Keep It Together
Fountains of Wayne - Utopia Parkway
Luna - Live
Jesus & Mary Chain - 21 Singles
Del the Funky Homosapien - No Need for Alarm

AOTD:

1. Sometimes, I do. I also think that a lot of people have no idea what the actual point of the thread is (e.g., what's being listened to on a given day, not purchased).

2. I only read about what happened a little bit ago. Never heard of them before that. Real tragedy though...

3. Don't think my collection is really influenced by geography, though Great Britain, Chicago, NYC and the Bay area are well-represented.

Fountains of Wayne-Self-Titled
New Order-Power Corruption & Lies
Metallica-St. Anger

and right now . . .

Teenage Fanclub-Thirteen on vinyl (just arrived from England today)

Anyone else listen to their favorite albums on vinyl? I've had a recent collector bug to track down my favorite albums of all-time on vinyl. Pretty fun and challenging, since a lot of my favorites are very hard to find. Now, if I could track down a copy of Wilco-Summerteeth on vinyl!
