Good comedy CDs for a long drive?

Okay, i am looking to buy some more cds that I can listen to in the car and I already listened to the good ones I have.

i am looking for the edgy stand-up comics like Robert Shimmel, Dave Atell, David Cross etc...I have their cds, but can you reccommend anyone else? Thanks....

People seem to like Bill Hicks' CDs. I have a sampler of his and thought a good deal of it was funny. I'd consider it "edgy." I can't really recommend a particular disc of his, since all I've heard is the comp.

Check out Bobby Slayton's Raging Bully (not PC at all), Dana Gould's Funhouse (hilarious) or some of Henry Rollins' spoken word stuff, which can be quite funny (The Boxed Life and Think Tank are good).

can't go wrong with old eddie murphy or richard pryor... Lewis Black has a couple of cds that are good

The Bill Cosby stuff I have is strictly G-Rated but it's still damn funny.
We've also got some Margaret Cho which is definitely not G-rated.

robert schimmel's unprotected is good.

if that's too tame for you, try something by doug stanhope. Doug stanhope makes robert schimmel look like a saint.

Find some old Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison. Both still are topical today. Both died young.

I like Brian Reagen (sp?)

For trying out Bill Hicks, the one cd I recommend would be Flying Saucer Tour (I think it's got a Volume 1 tacked on as well). To my knowledge, and certainly amongst the few other cds of his that I own, it's the only one that is an uninterrupted stand up. Everything else seems to be compilations of sorts. DEFINITELY edgy stuff, and a great show. He even starts....going off on the audience...I was going to say "picking fights", but that's not what he does. It just seems, as he says that he's entertaining them, one audience member at a time. He's hilarious, and they're definitely a nervous crowd.

I still love Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer. Always good for a laugh.

Yes, that's an excellent choice, one of my favorites. I believe his old independant cd is no longer available but he has a re-release you can get in stores coming out July 22nd.

Besides that, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND:
Stephen Lynch - Superhero

It's the funniest CD i've ever heard. That guy's amazing. If you only get one... get that one. It's a musical CD, not stand up, and I've listened to it many many times and it isn't old at all.

The Tenacious D CD is also very funny.

I completely agree with you there. I saw him live last week - hilarious. Even funnier, the next day I saw on the news that the Special Olympics were in town (he's got a very evil, yet funny song about them).

His first disc, A Little Bit Special, is good, too (it's studio, not live like Superhero). It has Jay Mohr doing his Christopher Walken impression on it (and, yeah, he asks for more cowbell).

JestersTear 07-03-03 10:02 PM

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot Stephen Lynch. His Comedy Central special cracked me up.

Cornfed 07-04-03 01:28 AM

I think Mitch Hedberg's CD is definitely worth listening to. I like it a lot but its getting kind of old because some of my friends recite the damn thing 24/7.
