Grandaddy's "Sumday"

I haven't really seen any mention of this album 'round the boards, but I was listening to it today and I thought it deserved a thread.

Out of the 3 big new releases that I bought last Tuesday (Radiohead and Fountains of Wayne being the other 2), I'd say that I've gotten the most enjoyment out of this fine piece of work from Modesto's Grandaddy.

Fountains of Wayne's new CD is cool, but they can't top their first album; Radiohead's is awesome, but not 100%; but Grandaddy's is a very well rounded, "any time of day" kind of album. Sure, a lot of their songs sound very much the same, but they use a formula that works well, and it just sounds great on this album. Anyone who's a fan of their "Hewlett's Daughter"-sounding songs would totally dig this album.

Anyone else out there enjoying this CD?

Haven't gotten it yet, but I'm going to. The Sophtware Slump is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.

Right now, I'm too busy listening to Hail to the Thief on repeat. After that, I'm getting the new Grandaddy and Fountains of Wayne albums.

I didn't realise it was out yet - but saw a review of it in Q magazine giving it 3 stars. I think their complaint was that there wasn't as much of that electronic "noodling" as there was on The Sophtware Slump.

So it's probably more straight-ahead rawk music like jonnyrocks says...

I remember getting into Grandaddy when they toured with Coldplay a while back, hadn't heard of them before that - what a great show! I'll have to pick up their latest... :D

(btw...ewww..."getting into grandaddy" just sounds wrong)

I've been thinking I should get this album but I always end up seeing something else I want more. "Hewlett's Daughter", hmm? I'm more of a fan of their "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot" and "Jed's Other Poem" style, but I don't have a real problem with songs like "HD" or "The Crystal Lake" (as I'm assuming that is another similar sound).

We'll see, I'm on the hunt for some other discs at the moment. I plan on getting it before the end of the summer though.
