All I've heard is Miss Independent, but I've heard it a lot. It gets played again and again and again on the local top 40 channel (although I seriously doubt their playlist actually has 40 songs on it.) Hate it and it's made me glad I never got the urge to watch American Idol.

The only time (thankfully) I've had to hear this crap was when Howard played clips yesterday morning.

Never heard any of them or watched the show. And my life is infinitely richer for that.

Never heard them, never plan to hear them, hate them.

Hate them because I know people with much more talent than these chuckleheads, but are still toiling away in run-down clubs.

Meanwhile, these people get national attention because they won a popularity contest. They know nothing about paying their dues.

Shut up! Kelly is the world's most talented singer, and you are all just jealous!

I'm not gonna buy them but Kelly's singles aren't bad. I haven't heard Justin's. The ones that they're going to release for Clay (the next Barry Manilow) and Ruben don't sound that great but oh well . .

Bland, pre-packaged pop with a short shelf life and zero long term influence. Except maybe as a trivial pusuit question in a few years.

As soon as I saw that Clay had covered "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" I knew I had to listen to it. Stern's right, it's pretty shallow. I'd be interested to see if American Idol would ever try to go as left field as to have someone on the show who liked to cover Radiohead and other fare that isn't too mainstream.

Q: What one-album artist won a contract on American Idol and then quickly fade into obscurity?

A: (Name of any winner here)

The better question begs:

Who buys that crap anyway. Single or not?
