Ummmmm, I suppose somebody must be getting this release. Do you have any good prices to offer? Why the flamer thread? Also you may want to refrain from putting OMFG in your thread title, it is a bit childish and not really necessary.

Well, I'm excited that's all...it's coming out here in the US tomorrow and I want other dvdtalkers to share and bask in my excitement:p No flame intended:)

gilbertr76 06-04-03 12:32 AM

I hadn't realized it was coming out so soon. I'll definitely add picking it up to my to do list.

Thanks for the reminder!

Rypro 525 06-04-03 06:45 AM

Many people are picking this up and there's a big thread in the main forum (listed as "pornography on dvd!)

GoVegan 06-04-03 08:31 AM

That's funny. When I saw the thread title, I assumed that this is what the thread would be about. Yeah, I'm getting it. Amazon should be getting it to me today or tomorrow (I hope!). I was really excited when I heard about this release. I was very tempted to fly to Germany to catch one of these shows, but I guess this will have to do.

DJLinus 06-04-03 02:38 PM

I completely forgot that this was coming out. Thanks for the reminder. I'll be picking it up (or ordering it) this week, depending on who has the most reasonable price. Any ideas?

dvduser6 06-04-03 04:08 PM

I ordered this from Laser's Edge for around $21. Locally in stores, Tower Records has the best B&M price I've seen at $19.99. Best Buy claims they will NOT have this on shelves until 6/24, but you can still order their website and they will ship right away. Not many places are carrying this, so best of luck in your search...

WHICH DVD are we talking about? WHAT band?

He might be using a nongraphical browser. If you can't see the picture, I guess you might not know what we're talking about. No one's actually mentioned the Cure yet, until now. Anyway, I'm off to the gym, then home to watch some Pornography (then possibly Disintigration.)

here's a novel concept...ever try shopping in a music store for music related product and not a store that carries refrigerators

-rolleyes-

Jeraden 06-04-03 07:20 PM

Wow, didn't even know such a dvd was coming out. I'll be picking it up.

DJLinus 06-04-03 09:53 PM

I'll probably hit Media Play sometime in the next couple of days. Although they can be pricey, they tend to have a better selection of non-movie DVDs than Best Buy or Circuit City. That's where I picked up the second "Get a Life" DVD and "Same Guys, Different Dresses" (Kids in the Hall) the days they came out. Their music DVD selection is relatively deep.

Whoever gets it first, please give your impressions. All, and I mean ALL reviews I've read so far have been extremely favorable.

scroll down for impressions

A rumor

there is already a discussion thread in the dvd software area
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...5&pagenumber=1

here are some of my thoughts:
the dvd is amazing...
running time is over 3 hours
picture quality and sound are top notch
it is 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen (filmed on hi-def video)
as far as audio you have your choice of DD5.1 or PCM stereo or course the DD mix rocks (the dvd defaults to PCM at the start of each disc)
great slipcase packaging with some nice pix inside
the menus are really well done in b&w
great editing job by Splinter
there are plenty of extras
2 song encore: "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" and "The Kiss"
30 minute interview with members of the band
hidden easter eggs: if you go to the Disinteration set listed on the menu you put the cursor on "Plainsong" and push left on your remote, you can watch a split screen view (one screen from each night) of the song as shot from a camera directly behind Robert as he looks out to the crowd. If you highlight "The Same Deep Water As You" and push left it takes you to footage of this song viewed through a camera focused on Robert's face mounted next to the microphone. On the interview menu if you push left under the topic heading "End Of An Era" you get some outakes from the interviews.

This band does an amazing job of performing the Pornography and Disintegration records. You can tell the respect they have for the material and their need to get it right (this is echoed by the band members in the interview footage). Of course this lineup created the Bloodflowers work so they do a great job on that as well (the last 3 songs of that set being particularly strong). The highlight for me was clearly the Disintegration material. It is just such an amazing piece of work and they nailed it.

**spoiler**
I love it when at the end of the Pornography set Robert says "see you in 7 years" while leaving the stage only to return immediately for the Disintegration set ..he does the same after that set and before Bloodflowers (11 years)

to me this is even better than the Zep package but I'm more of a Cure fan anyway
This is a must own if you even only 'like' The Cure
Now if I can only get someone to release "In Orange" on dvd

Having a bad day, are we? I merely pointed out that this hasn't been an easy find. Places like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc, actually DO carry CDs and DVDs (amazing, I realize). I was checking those stores to find the product at a reasonable price before resorting to higher-priced locations like Tower Records, Virgin, etc.

Using IE 6.0. No picture. No mention of the band either in the original post.
