Your thoughts on the Ozzy Osbourne rerecording controversy

In case you didn't know, he recorded all of his older solo albums with his current band (Well, on the two albums he was on, Randy Rhodes got to stay).
I just got Blizzard of Ozz for my birthday (I wanted the original version via amazon's trading service). I really can't tell that it has been rerecorded. I mean, the bass sounds a tad different from the version I hear on the radio, but it doesn't sound distroyed like many people have said.

Prince was supposed to be doing something [IMO] this stupid too..

One the one hand, it's their stuff that they'd be ruining..

On the other hand, I don't have to buy it..

So...let him do whatever...

But, didn't Ozzy just add stuff that he thought was missing and not rerecord? I thought that's what I read on here one time..

I heard he added new bass and drum tracks but left everything else in.

What happened was that the original bass and drum tracks were removed, and replaced with new bass and drum tracks by Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin, from Ozzy's then current band, in an attempt to dick the original players out of royalties.
Two guesses who's behind that decision.

IMO, this royally SUCKS. It's akin to replacing instrumental tracks on any classic work.

Randy Rhoades guitar tracks and Ozzy's vocal tracks are still intact -- but I've heard some mutterings that the albums are mixed slightly differently, and that the vocals are buried deeper into the mix. I don't know, because I haven't heard the remixes/re-recordings myself, and won't if I have any say in it.

I still have both albums on vinyl, and consider myself most fortunate.

WOW MAN.

That f'n sucks. Hell, at least Prince was going to re-record the tracks again. [Then again, he played the majority of instruments on the originals anyways.]

Guess Pepsi Twist didn't pay all that much, eh?

I have heard Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman and not only were the bass and drums rerecorded but also some of the vocals. You can tell the difference and it is not for the better. I would suggest to anyone who is a fan of Ozzy's music to get the 1995 remasters because it looks as though they will be the best versions of the original recordings to ever see the light of day. Sharon Osbourne never ceases to amaze me.

Prince was (is?) in the process of re-recording much of his work because he owns the songs, but not the recordings.

I'm sure...

Right after he puts out Roadhouse Garden, the Hot Xperience, the "sample" series, etc...see a pattern?

I guess he thinks that tracks are never done, they're only abandoned. Next thing you know, he'll have Greedo's guitar solo first.

This definately sucks. It's not like Ozzy came up with all those songs. His bands have contributed to a lot of them.

Daisley and Kerslake were screwed from the beginning of Ozzy's solo career, so this was no surprise.

So all of Jake E. Lee's guitar work have been redone too?

You have to realise though that Ozzy doesn't even know what the hell is going on. I am willing to say that Sharon had 95% of the decision to remake the older albums.

She even picked what songs should be on Ozzy's last album.
