What are your favorite 80s remakes
Watching Not Another Teen Movie has made me want to find other great 80s remakes.
Tainted Love - Marilyn Manson 99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger I Melt With You - Mest If You Leave - Good Charlotte Those were great remakes. What are your favorites? |
Being a teenager in the '80s I prefer the original in almost every instance....and not just the ones you mentioned.
I can't help but believe that "new' talent should find some 'new' material and stop rehashing **** from the past.... |
The Ataris version of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" is very good.
|
Bowling for Soup - Summer of 69.

"Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm (right?) was kinda fun the first couple times. Mostly because of the novelty of covering Michael Jackson.......plus I liked the way the video worked in other MJ references (the surgical mask, the "Thriller" eyes, stepping on the sidewalk and having it light up).

Metallica - [insert many a cover here]
Fear Factory - Cars Powerman 5K - Let the Good Times Roll Disturbed - Shout Ataris - Boys of Summer Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal Lost of others that I enjoy as well, just can't pull them off the top of my head. |
I'll choose another Marilyn Manson remake as well...but I'll opt for "Sweet Dreams". It has more to do with hating the Eurythmic's version and being about to at least stomach Manson's version.
|
"In a Big Country" moe.
"Like a Prayer" and "Lionel Ritchie Medley" Guster |

i actually enjoy the Foo Fighters' and Marilyn Manson's versions of "Down in the Park" by Gary Numan/Tubeway Army.
Other than that, I don't really enjoy most of the covers I've heard. |

One of the first I knew of (and liked) was Save Ferris' "Come On Eileen". But I like alot of their stuff and even saw them live (and met the band, groupie style afterwards, me being the only 30 year old there  ) And with that, I end my one and only foray into the Music Forum. ;) |
The Chauffeur by the Deftones
Our Lips Are Sealed/Nightclubbing by The Chainsaw Kittens Last Caress/Green Hell by Metallica Torture by Nine Inch Nails I Only Want What I Can Not Have by the Deftones Turning Japanese by Liz Phair Metro by System of a Down These are all I can think of right now. |
"Rapper's Delight"-Redman,Erick Sermon,and Keith Murray
"One"-Korn "Time after time"-INOJ "Do you really want to hurt me?"-Violent Femmes "Take on me"-Reel Big Fish "When Doves cry"-Ginuwine |
Bryan Adams' "Heaven" redone by DJ Sammy was a lot of fun
|
Locomotion in the 80s from the 60s Little Eva, Carole King wrote that song for payment of Eva's babysitting. One hit wonder for Eva.
I wish someone would have updated "To know him is to Love him originally by "The Teddy Bears" which I can never find. She had a sexy voice like Precilla Paris of the Paris Sisters. Barbara of the Visitors, who sang the title song of "The Wild Angels" motorcycle movie had a nice hotty voice. |
Oooh, a topic right up my alley.
I'm gonna stick with pop-punk genre since kvrdave's "likes" came from this genre: Check out these CDs: Before You Were Punk Before You Were Punk 2 Punk Goes Metal Individual songs: Thrice - Send Me an Angel Goldfinger - Just Like Heaven Get Up Kids - Close to Me Blink 182 - Dancin With Myself Bracket (or Less Than Jake) - Jenny (867-5309) Gameface - Time After Time Bouncing Souls - I'll Melt with You Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me Mxpx (or Bowling for Soup) - Summer of '69 Mxpx (or Reel Big Fish) - Take On Me Reel Big Fish - Hungry Like the Wolf Goldfinger - Rio Rufio - Like a Prayer Pennywise - Land Down Under Riverfenix (aka Fenix TX) - Ordinary World More when I think of them. |

The Kinks' "Better Things" covered by Fountains of Wayne
|
The Skinny Puppy version of Tainted Love is even better than the Marily Manson version ;).
|
I forgot probably my favorite remake, and the first time I saw facial piercing outside tatoo parlour and leather crowd.
Easy by Faith No More This EP also has some other great covers on it, like the theme from Midnight Cowboy, Lets Lynch the Landlord by the Dead Kennedy. |
Like a Prayer by H20 and Holiday in Cambodia by Boy Sets Fire....
|
the first two that came to mind was by Marilyn Manson... tainted love and sweet dreams.
|
the uk poop charts are filled with remakes of every available song.
Not sure I can come up with a particular one I like though. |
No Doubt's version of the Police's "Message In the Bottle" is very good.
I also like Sheryl Crow's version of Gn'R "Sweet Child of Mine'. |
