I am a huge John Williams fan so all of his are great.
I was really surprised by two of his recent works, both for Spielberg, AI and Catch Me If You Can. I really like the new directions he is taking in the world of movie scores. I am glad someone mentioned Superman, as it is to date the only movie that I have watched with the Score only track. I love the Superman score!

I have 524 in 2 300 +1 CD Disc changers and you want me to pick 3 or 4, I have movie sound tracks going back to 1882.
The 1882 is John Philps Sousa U.S. Marine Band, how many have that one? Seriously High and the Mighty 1954, Laura 1944, Somewhere in Time 1980, Basic Instinct, and The Day the Earth Stood Still I have that from Bernard Herrman in Dolby Surround remastered using period instruments by Orchestra of Prague with Nick Raines conducting.
P.S. The movies except Basic Instinct are monaural, what a shame when there's Dolby Surround to listen to.

I am somewhat surprised that I didn't see either of these in previous Posts (although there was another P. Glass soundtrack).
A Clockwork Orange (Walter/Wendy Carlos)
Koyaanisquatsi (Phillip Glass)

Dawn of the Dead
Halloween
And let me just go ahead and say the entire body of work by Nino Rota, Bernard Herrmann and Henry Mancini, the holy trinity of film scoring IMHO.

Just off the top of my head...
The Adventures of Robin Hood - Korngold
Alexander Nevsky - Prokofiev
The Blue Max - Goldsmith
The Bride of Frankenstein - Waxman
King Kong - Steiner
The Lion in Winter - Barry
On the Waterfront - L. Bernstein
Our Town - Copland
The Robe - Newman
Vertigo - Herrmann
I'd need a separate list for John Williams.
