I'll second that. It's the most original of the batch.

De Stijl rocks!

It encapsulates great roots blues rock.

Hollowgen 05-11-03 08:37 PM

Elephant!

De Stijl is by far the best.

Jepthah 05-12-03 12:17 AM

I'm pretty sure it ISN'T Elephant, being the only one I've heard so far in its entirety. Not the masterpiece the music crix would have me believe--in my own little ol' opinion.

I want to hear De Stijl--I love the cover of "Death Letter" by Son House, for one.

1. Elephant
2. The White Stripes
3. De Stijl
4. White Blood Cells

For me, De Stijl and White Blood Cells are kind of.. transitional albums. The self-titled is the most childish(not a bad thing) and then they get darker up to Elephant, which is the most serious(also not a bad thing). I love them all. I could easily switch 1 and 2 depending on what mood I'm in.

37 In A Row 05-12-03 01:47 PM

I think my order would go:

1) De Stijl
2) Elephant
3) White Stripes (so raw and angry!)
4) White Blood Cells

It was a tie between White Blood Cells and De Stijl, but on the strength of "Ball and Biscuit" alone, I'm going with Elephant now.

Listening to it right now. If you haven't heard it, get out of your chair, go to the store, now.

Just not as in love with De Stijl as many people are. Good album, but I really liked the diversity of Elephant and White Blood Cells. I'm fickle with my sounds.

Get Behind Me Satan (yes, it's been leaked)

Meatpants 05-20-05 03:03 PM

1. Elephant
2. De Stijl
3. White Stripes
4. White Blood Cells
5. GBMS

The last two are still really good, just not quite as great as the other 3.

Has anyone else heard the leak? It seems like this is going to be their least commercial album, aside from Blue Orchid. Lots of slower songs, xylophones, etc. Pretty interesting stuff.

My vote goes to Elephant. Although I might not have listened to the others as much. But to me, no White Stripes track beats "Ball and Biscuit"
