Old School

Music Tawkers,

Does anyone here like/remember/care about the '70s and '80s bands that layed the groundwork for the "alternative" (I hate that term, but I couldn't think of a better one.) -rolleyes- scene of the '90s?

I don't necessarily mean the Pistols or the Clash, but some of the lesser known, but influential bands. A (very) partial list would be:

Mission of Burma
The Specials
Husker Du
The Rezillos
The Buzzcocks
Magazine
XTC
Stiff Little Fingers
The Vibrators
Wire
Television
The Vapors
Public Image Limited
Gang of Four
Wall of Voodoo
Ultravox!
Bauhaus
Killing Joke
Dead Kennedys

You get the idea.

IMO, this was one of the most prolific and creative times in pop music and I miss a lot of these bands. I still hear their influence in music coming out today. Does anyone else wax nostalgic about this time? Let's compare notes and get all misty about the old days! ;)

You forgot the Pixies and the Replacements...

I forgot a bunch, but those are two fine inclusions. The Pixies in particular were (and are) a favorite of mine.
