Where and when did the phrase "dropping a new CD' originate?

Started seeing this a few years ago and have to admit I find it pretty idiotic. Was there something wrong with the word "release" or do we need to have a hip phrase for everything?

just another example on how inane and lazy the English language is becoming.

I'm gonna cop that ish.. :)

This term is so incredibly annoying. In my experience, the people who use it think it's lingo that makes them part of the 'industry', when in reality they're just on a street team.

[edit: typo]

The phrase "pooping out a new CD" didn't have the same ring to it, although it's more accurate for the most part.

Sprinkle me some of that game!

Weird, I've never heard that phrase before. But then again, when was the last time anyone ever bought a CD? ;)
