I had to go with PJ just because I grew up with on TEN hehe. Never liked Nirvana, but next would come AIC and Soundgarden and none of the others.

If it weren't for the Pixies and the Melvins, none of these bands would even exist.

I don't really think Soundgarden is a grunge band. They are much more metal in my opinion. Those awesome guitar riffs are metal.

I would say the same for Alice In Chains.

Anyway as to the list I would have to say its a tie between Soundgarden & Alice In Chains. Both those bands kicked so much ass, I miss em both.

RIP Layne

Giles... THANK YOU. Outside of Nirvana, my favorite "grunge" band from the early 90's has to be Screaming Trees. For the most part, I don't like this type of music. Zzzzzzzzz.

Alice in Chains would be fav. band on that list, but I agree that a lot of people would be mad if you labeled them "grunge".

On a side note, I recently started listening to Seaweed again. Broke out their album "Four" the other day. I still like Seaweed, how about anyone else?

Take Bush and Hole off of that list please - they degrade it.

Yes. A band that never got much attention. I still have to get their last album Actions & Indications.

I also love their self-titled debut and the album 'Weak'. Weak's track "Bill" was one of my favorites for a long time.

I just got finished listening to "Weak". I'm getting ready to listen to "Despised" now. I'm glad you mentioned them because they got buried in my collection.

Nirvana is my favorite but the more I hear of Alice In Chains and Mad Season the more I realize AIC and Staley were not given the attention that they deserved.

Pearl Jam. I love all those bands except Hole though. Grunge is far and way my favorite type of music. I long for the days of the early to mid-90's when music didn't suck.

I'm with Josh on this one. I think Smashing Pumpkins should be on that list though, and take Bush off.

It's really cool to see how many people are into AIC, which was my pic. Nirvana was great, as were (are?) many other bands on the list, but AIC produced masterpieces. I think everyone needs to add "AIC: Dirt" to their collections.

I like Nirvana the best, I also like Soundgarden, but I don't really think they are "grunge" other than being from Seattle (and I still prefer Nirvana to Soundgarden).

I like at least some music by most of those bands, although I'm not overfond of AIC or Pearl Jam, and don't like Bush at all.

I'm maybe one of the few still left who actually like Hole, as well. At least, I like (a lot) Live Through This.

Dirt is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Layne was also one of my favortie vocalists, such an awesome powerful, unique voice. He really is missed

Except for Nirvana and Mudhoney, I really wouldn't consider ANY of the bands listed as "grunge".

Faith No More is not a grunge band.

I chose Soundgarden! It's grunge. Soundgarden existed before Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Although, as what have been posted above, Soundgarden would not have existed if not for the Pixies and the Melvins...
