I'm probably the slowest music-buying regular poster in the Music threads (due to money, age and competing pleasures) Finally bought a bunch of discs I've been wanting.
Got the latest Sigur Ros. Good stuff. Reminds me of Low at times.
I've read their previous album is better. True? And I'd guess they are pretty good live (?).

Also picked up Clinic "Walking With Thee". AWESOME disc.

Doves "Last Broadcast". Wonderful band. Why aren't they more popular?

Groove Armada "Goodbye Country"

Coldplay "Rush Blood" Everytime I put this disc in and hear "Politik" I think of that silly thread we had a couple of weeks ago about their Grammy performance. I love this disc. And "Politik" is simply an astounding piece of music. Very powerful.

Travis "Invisible Band"... see how slow I am buying stuff?!

Queens of the Stone Age "Songs.. Deaf" Haven't listened yet.

And Zero 7 "Simple Things". Never heard of these guys, but because of the thread recently where they were compared to Air I wanted to hear this. Not a bad CD, but not even in the same ballpark as "Moon Safari". I think I tend to like less of an R&B flavor to my electronica.

I'm posting only because I still haven't bought any of those CDs (though I want to buy a number of them). See, you aren't the slowest music-buying regular poster!

But I'm glad you like the Sigur Ros, Clinic, and Coldplay albums, because those were three I was interested in and based on your other posts, I think my tastes are similar to yours. (And since QOTSA was also on my list, please post your thoughts when you finally listen to it.)

Sigur Ros' previous album, Ágætis Byrjun, is simply amazing, and it blows the new album away...not saying that the new album isn't good, though, as I think that it is a brilliant piece of work. But, if you like the new one, then you will totally like the last one.

That Clinic album is very good, as well. If you like that, may I recommend an album that just came out in the U.S. a few weeks ago by the band Notwist, titled "Neon Golden." They are on the same label as Clinic used to be on (Domino). It's a good fusion of rockingness and crazy textured electro sounds. Very good album from the past year!

I agree, Agaetis Byrjun is the superior of the two discs. I enjoy ( ) very much, in fact it is my most spun "study" cd, but here's my analysis: ( ) evolves very slowly across the span of the whole disc: tension builds up between tracks 1-6 and then explodes in 7 and (especially) 8. Well, AB has more of that in a single song...especially in "Viorar Vel Til Loftrasa," which still happens to be my all time favorite Sigur Ros song...perhaps one of my top 10 ever. As a conceptual project, I think that ( ) is better when listened to in one sitting. Agaetis Byrjun can have the songs taken out and listened to as singles, as well as be incredible in the entire context.

Notwist, huh? I'll get back to you in 2005 when I buy it!! haha
Thanks for the rec. I'm listening to the Clinic CD now. Right up my alley. I'm a nut for 60's garage rock. Throw in a little Devo influence with some electronic sounds... man, it's like heaven.
I'm not sure what instrument they use a lot that sounds like a treated melodica, but it's really cool (maybe an oboe?)

SAShepherd, I just listened to half of the QoSA disc. I think I'll like it. I'm not a big fan of Metallica rock or Beavis and Butthead stuff. Queens are a lot smarter than that, but it's basically just heavy rock. You can see of the discs I listed that one is sort of the odd man out, but I'm crazy about the song "No One Knows". Forget about the cool video, the song is just perfect. I'm not sure how much I'll dig into this recording, but if it ends being a hard rock fave like Urge Overkill's "Saturation" that'd be great.
BTW, I bought all those discs by joining BMG ('cept for Coldplay which will probably be added soon... and Zero 7).

I'll probably try and hear the other Sigur Ros disc when I can.

Agaetis Byrjun is my favorite album of the last three years, period.

I actually like ( ) better than Agaetis Byrjun (though not by much). Regardless, both are absolutely wonderful and worth owning.

Yeah, I was thinking of going the BMG route soon, if only to add those 4 discs... I've got the feeling -- without having listened to it at all, of course -- that I'll like the Queens disc for a year or two, after which I'll move on. Thanks for the comments.

Honestly, if you like that Clinic record as much as you say (and as much as I do) you must re-prioritize buying the other two records. (Internal Wrangler and 3 ep's/self titled) They are equally as phenomenal. Seriously, I haven't been this excited about 3 records since the Pixies.

for Sigur Ros fans, the score they just recently released for a documentary entitled 'Hlemmur' is very good.

I'm going to see them play in DC tommorrow night, so I'm looking forward to picking it up at the merch table!

Does anyone have the Angels of the Universe soundtrack that Sigur Ros performed on? Is it worth getting? What's it like?

I agree with you, atlantamoi, the Doves' Last Broadcast is an awesome cd. I love it, and can't stop listening to it still.

I'm going to see Sigur Ros in Atlanta in a few weeks. Really excited about it, since I haven't seen them in concert before.

I agree...I can't wait til their Vegas show. One of my most anticipated shows of the year (next to the Phish weekend that passed a month ago anyway).

jonnyrocks, see if you can find the 3 ep's (or self titled as I've also seen it called). Whew, fantastic as well.

That's exactly what it is, treated melodica. I've seen Clinic live twice in the past year and that's what he uses, in addition to an organ.

Great list of CDs, I have and love most of them. Clinic's Walking With Thee was my favorite release of 2002.

Just letting all of you that are awaiting Sigur Ros tour dates know that you are in for a fantastic show. It was incredibly well-rounded and well...breath-taking, really. Even though Jonsi is just singing pretty gibberish, he does so with a powerful conviction. It made me respect it as an emotional outlet even more.

I hope that Album Leaf is one of the opening acts at your show; I really enjoyed their music, as well.

Based on a glowing recommendation from my brother (and this board), I finally got () via BMG last week. Man, I love it. I put it on the night I got it; was only going to listen to a track or two, since it was late. I couldn't tear myself away from the stereo and listened to it all. Haven't done that with a new disc in a while.

It arrived at the perfect time, too. I'm in the middle of exams and it's good to have something chill to put on while studying. Now, if I don't start writing the answers to my Estates & Trusts exam in "Hopelandic" tomorrow, I'll be okay.

Coldplay's album gets better and better w/ every listen. My favorite purchase of the last year or so, which says a lot because I have really found a new appreciation for music in the last year and have gone crazy by listening to so much stuff. Far and away better than "Parachutes", imo.

Doves "Last Broadcast" is one of my greatest blind buys EVER. Be sure to pick up "Lost Souls", too. Its not as good as their latest effort, but its still an excellent listen.

Queens of the Stone Age put out a fine hard-rocking album. Also gets better w/ every listen.

I picked up Sigur Ros ( ) a couple of months ago. Very interesting - it has intriguied me a great deal and now I am looking to pick up "Agaetis Byrjun" the next time I'm out to buy an album. I credit this forum for giving me the push to try out Sigur Ros - thanks.

bahist17, I agree with you on your Coldplay comments. I ended buying "Parachutes" and "Rush Blood..." at the exact same time.
Listening to them both... no comparison. "Rush" is a superior album and that's saying a lot because I like "Parachutes". "Rush" has better songs and also a punchier sound.

I have the Doves "Lost Souls". I still am floored by "The Cedar Room" and a few other songs.

"( )" will be released on SACD sometime this summer (no exact date yet)!

I caught Sigur Ros live a month ago and it was a fantastic show. I was genuinely amazed at how well the material worked live and there was some very nice new material as well.

If you can see 'em, it's worth the effort.

I saw them in 2001. It was a good show. I met Jonsi and showed him my Ágætis Byrjun tattoo. :)

The Notwist are one of my favorite bands too. Just saw them a few weeks ago.
