Universal Music Enterprises (UME) has inked an exclusive deal with Motley Crue to rerelease the group's catalog in the U.S., bolstered with bonus tracks. The label is also planning to issue two DVDs. The catalog reissues will precede Universal's release of a planned film of the group's autobiography, "The Dirt," as well as future Motley Crue albums.

The reissue project on Universal division Hip-O Records will begin April 1, with reissues of the band's 1998 "Greatest Hits" compilation, eight studio albums, a live album, a rarities compilation, and two DVD home-video compilations. Eight of the 11 albums will be augmented with bonus tracks that have previously only appeared on Japanese editions. For the band's first seven albums, the tracks will sit next to bonus tracks that appeared on the initial remastered reissues in 1999.

The albums slated for April 1 release are "Greatest Hits," "Too Fast for Love," "Shout at the Devil," "Girls, Girls, Girls," "Theater of Pain," "Dr. Feelgood," "Motley Crue," "Generation Swine," "Supersonic and Demonic Relics," "Live: Entertainment or Death," and "New Tattoo."

The reissued DVDs, hitting stores the same day, are "VH1 Behind the Music: Motley Crue," a DVD version of the group's highly rated 1999 episode; and "Lewd, Crued, and Tattooed," a concert video originally released in 2001.

turborobb 02-03-03 05:55 PM

wait... let me get this straight, so they will have the bonus tracks from the 1999 releases plus even more extra tracks??? so I have to buy them all again??? agghh!!!

MJKTool 02-03-03 06:10 PM

Didn't they already do something like this a few years ago?

Why not just put these "extra songs" on one CD instead of spreading them out to all their cd's? oh I know why.....$$$$$

Mutley Hyde 02-03-03 06:36 PM

Lame... AC/DC, now Motley Crue, who's next to cash in on the re-remastered craze? Iron Maiden? KISS? How about they come out with the rest of the BOC remasters before making more re-remasters, dammit. -shakes fist-

GuessWho 02-03-03 07:21 PM

Fave CD (not counting Best Of stuff) is definitely Dr Feelgood!!

Bummer about the DVDs all being re-issues... I want the Decade of Decadence vhs on DVD!!!!

It's not really a "craze" -- both groups seemed to have jumped labels... why would the new record company want people buying CDs from the former company? Of course, they have to put it out again themselves.

GuessWho 02-03-03 07:28 PM

New info not above:

** NEW "Greatest Hits" CD March 4th

** Video collection coming later in 2003

** Box set for holiday season

The box set will also offer rarities as well album-side favorites from the Crue's multi-platinum albums Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr. Feelgood. "It's going to be cumbersome to put together but it's going to be exciting for the buyer," says Sixx. "I want them to go, 'Wow, I never thought I'd get my hands on the very first single. They only made a thousand of these things and here I finally get it.'"

Okay, maybe not a "craze". A frenzy maybe? A mild sensation? ;)

Thanks for the info. www.billboard.com didn't mention this. I think I'll keep my old CDs and get the box set. I can't wait for a decent Video collection on DVD. :D

If you want to talk about ripping off your fans, Aerosmith has the market cornered.

Instead of putting out full albums, they just record a couple decent new songs (that would be the "good" songs on an original album) and then stick them on a double-CD greatest hits album.

Iron Maiden has re-released their catalog about 5 times now..
and NO im not kidding..
They do it like every other year..
First they were released with some bonus tracks..then they released their albums with I believe bonus tracks and a live disc from each era..then they released the albums bare bones, last year they released them in those cardboard sleeves (not sure about extra content) and now they were re-released in regular CD cases.

KISS..re-released their catalog up to crazy nights back in 97 or so...with no B sides or anything..

Mutley Hyde 02-04-03 03:10 PM

Re: Iron Maiden... true KSiG, too true. I guess since I picked up the double cds when they came out, and just didn't pay attention to the subsequent rereleases, I didn't think about that. My bad. :)

And the KISS deal pisses me off to no end. No extras whatsoever on the cds, and then they come out with a Best Of + Rare Stuff box set, so to get the rare stuff, you also had to double up on half the material.... sucks!!

Beyond Music who issued the last lot of Motley discs recently went tits up leaving the band with NO distribution company.

Ahhh, well then - if the last reissues are now unavailable, then this all makes perfect sense.

Mutley Hyde 02-04-03 11:52 PM

p.s., yes, I know they're probably still available, I mean they can't be ordered. Wait, no, that's not quite right either, as wholesalers will have them. You people know what I mean dangit! ;)

Snowmaker 02-05-03 06:19 AM

I only have Shout... so its no biggie to me.

Geofferson 02-05-03 11:53 AM

I love the Crue, but I will not be buying catalog titles all over again. I got a few of the Crucial Crue reissues from '99 for cheap, and I'll just stick with those (as well as my adored Crue vinyl).

As far as favorite albums goes, it's a toss-up between Too Fast For Love and Shout at the Devil.

Theatre of Pain was decent.

Girls, Girls, Girls was pretty bad (and a low-point for the band as far as drug use goes).

Dr. Feelgood was their best selling album, and most chart-friendly album.

Motley Crue '94 was terrible. 'Nuff said.

Generation Swyne was ok. I did not like the fact that they tried to experiment with the way they sound. They are known for their 80s rock riffs, why change?

New Tattoo was actually a good album. A throwback to the days of old.

Jason 02-05-03 12:01 PM

Unless the bonus tracks are numerous and exceptional, I'll stick with the current reissues. They sound fine, and I only need TFFL to finish up with what I need.

I agree with you up to MC'94...
I thought the album with John Corabi was brilliant as was Gen Swine. It showed they werent just an 80's hair band and showed off more of Nikki's writing abilities.
As for New Tattoo..I thought that was garbage..too cliche and stuck in the past for me.
94 and Swine were a nice step forward..

Still can't find a tracklist for March 4th's new Greatest Hits.

Hopefully, this is a new set and not a reissue of the current version, because I'd change the following:
 • add the original "Shout At The Devil" (remix sucked)
 • add "Live Wire"
 • add "Too Young To Fall In Love"
 • drop Enslaved

Good call.

Shout at the Devil '97 did suck. Original is probably their best. Also, I'd add Save Our Souls off of Theatre of Pain - great, underrated song.

According to www.bestbuy.com it's the same. U may want to find Decade for:
"Shout At The Devil", "Live Wire", & "Too Young To Fall In Love"

GuessWho 02-15-03 05:11 PM

Decade still didn't have TYTFIL.

Yet it was a single, with a GREAT video... kung fu fighting Crue!!

Sorry bout that. I too like the video & I knowed it's on the VHS of Decade, forgot it wasn't on the CD.

Well i already bought all the remastered albums from Shout..through Dr. Feelgood.Thats enough for me & no need to rebuy the albums.

Still need to get To Fast..,which i've never really heard before besides Live Wire.

As for resissues after resissues. You do NOT have to rebuy the albums if you don't want to:)

In fact..i'd only rebuy a album once.Mainly to replace a old outdated muffled quality cd with a new restored amped up remaster that rocks!

I bought all The Doors albums twice over the years.Sold off my old copies & purchased the remastered releases which sound excellent. So i have no need to rebuy them again no matter what extras they toss on the discs.

As for the AC/DC reissues. Will they actually sound better than the old remasters? It's strange since i used to have the remastered Back In Black.Yet when i got Bonfire for Xmas. The Back..edition included there while remastered sounded even better than my old copy! It was loud, ful of bass & so on.

Yet i don't feel like rebuying the albums since i already have most of there 70's & early 80's stuff.
