To tell you the truth, I really don't like the Datsuns. Pretty bland ACDC crap. That Joseph Arthur is good if you liked some of his previous work. I saw Calla just a few weeks ago actually.

The Pimps....formerly The Good Year Pimps.
From Rockford, IL. They appeared on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, as well as in the trailer for Crazy/Beautiful. (not sure if they were on the soundtrack or not) They've got that rock/rap hybrid that's so common nowadays, but they're awesome live. Even better than in their early-90's incarnation, as Sarkoma. Briefly signed to Hollywood Records, but refused to edit their tracks on the second go-round, and consequently ended back in the minors. |

1. The Dick Nixons
2. Rockabilly/punk 3. Um...maybe Rev Horton Heat but not too much 4. As far as I Know, they've released one album--Paint the White House Black. They are a very small subset of the 'humor rock' genre, the 'political humor rock' genre. Most of their songs relate to Richard Nixon, and as such, were of course more relevant when he was, like, alive, and are likely to appeal to those who have a slight understanding of history. But they do do a fun couple of covers [Knock Three Times, Lucille.] |
1) Paragon
2) Heavy Metal 3) In the tradition of Maiden, Priest, NWOBHM, Accept, etc. 4) Their first album was released in 1995. Several full length tracks available for download at http://www.paragon-legions.com/ |
Band: Powderfinger
Genre: Aussie Rock, Blues Rock, Alternative Pop-Rock Similar Artists: The Wallflowers, Crowded House, Cowboy Junkies My friend from Australia sent me some mp3s by them and I was hooked. My favorite songs of theirs are "Sunsets", "Since You've Been Gone", "Stumblin", "(Baby, I've Got You) On My Mind", "Passenger", and "My Happiness". I can't see how Jet are so big over here and Powderfinger are still complete unknowns in America. Jet are probably more punk-influenced and have a sloppier garage-rock sound, but Powderfinger remind a lot of them and are 10x better in my opinion. If you're into the genres I listed, I would definitely recommend their album Vulture Street. Death/speed metal fans, stay away. :D I'm also really into The Magnetic Fields at the moment. I have no idea how well-known they are, but I got the album 69 Love Songs, Pt. 1 as a gift and have been playing it constantly. Apparently they're more of a one-man group led by a guy named Stephin Merritt. I can't really describe their sound. I can hear influences of everything from Abba and The Beach Boys to Joy Division and Roxy Music. Here's their AMG page. |
