The Doors (2003 version)

Anyone catch the Tonight Show last night (1/16)? The new version of the Doors performed "Light My Fire". I sat there just smiling... half way thinking how silly and half of me thinking how cool. I mean, Stewart Copeland and Ian Astbury... interesting. I will say this, if they HAD to go and do that then Ian Astbury makes alot of sense in that role. I know they've been playing together recently, but that was the first time I got to see it.

I'd really prefer to see John Dinsmore, but I know he's unable to perform. I'll probably go see them when they tour anyhow. Copeland is cool too.

I really, really, really hope they do NOT cut a new album under the name "The Doors".

Are they planning on touring? Those guys have been so careful not to allow their music to be used in commercials. I wonder then if they'd go on tour like that just to rake in the bucks... which to me is not much different than selling your songs (something I don't think is a big deal).

I'm pretty sure they're touring right now. I know they just played here not too long ago...

I may be wrong but I think "Riders on the Storm" has been used in advertisements in the UK.

I have always thought that various Stranglers tunes were more than a little Doors-esque (in no small part down to Dave Greenfield's keyboards) and so would have liked the idea of Hugh Cornwell as the vocalist in the 2002/2003 version.

I thought Eddie Vedder did an awesome job when he sang with The Doors at their R&R HOF induction back in '93. It would have been cool to see them do some more work together.

Despite the fact that the other members are claiming that he can't tour for health reasons, John Densmore has made it clear that he thinks this 'reunion' tour is a joke and he wants no part of it. He also claims that Ray Manzarek (sp?) would love to sell the Doors' songs for commercials, but he always vetoes it.

They dressed Ian up in Jim's clothes and got him a perm.
Ray is great, but REALITY-
No NEW songs.
The POET has left the building.
Instead of a more daring choice they are using a sorta-ringer.

This is called a Cover authentic as Mike Love's "Beach Boys".

this version of the Doors sucks. the singer doesn't have anywhere near the charisma that morrison had. plus, [totally superficial] manzarek looks like a complete hoser now - as in enormously big ego and horrible wannabe eurotrashy clothes[/totally superficial].
