Did the Cure influence REM?
Inquiring minds want to know. I know that REM has claimed many bands influenced them, but what about the Cure? Everytime I hear the song "Boys Don't Cry" the rhythm guitar and bass sound like a blueprint for early REM. I think "Jumping Someone Else's Train" might have that same sound. Anyone else hear it?

I think I read/heard an interview with Michael Stipe somehwhere along the way where he referenced Smith and The Cure. As for JSET, hell yes. Same goes for 10:15 Saturday Night, Primary, and other earlier Cure tunes.

10:15 Saturday Night is one of the all time coolest songs. It's their very first song from their very first album. Maybe I'll drive over to Athens and as Mike. ha!
|
For my $$, The Love Cats and In Between Days are two of their funnest songs from the days of old.
Go ahead and drive to Athens and ask Mr. Stipe your questions, and while you're there ask him if he could be sure to include Indianapolis on the next REM tour :D |
