any good artists out their that sound like.....

hey:
i was hoping to find some more artists out their for me to listen too. I really enjoy PETE YORN, pink floyd, VAST, some john mayer, the band, etc...... i was hoping to get some input on similar artists out their that have the "mellow-hippy-like" sound like the artists i mentioned above.
thanks

Belle and Sebastian
Spoon
The Halo Benders
Built to Spill

I don't know if I'd say any of these artists sound "hippie-like", but they are all pretty good for putting on while kicking back. Belle and Sebastian seriously sounds like they put out music in the 70s. You ought to check out Spoon's latest album, Kill the Moonlight. Built to Spill is pretty "rock": high-flying solo's that Neil Young trademarked.

Modest Mouse, I don't know if you would consider it 'mellow' or 'hippie-like', but it is some lounge music to listen to, while at home or on the road.

If you like Pink Floyd, do check out Van Der Graaf Generator, especially their albums, "Still Life", "World Record", and "Quite Zone/ Pleasure Dome".

They may not quite be "mellow-hippy-like", but they are from the same era as Pink Floyd with a similar Prog sound in a way .. but far more intense. Also, the singer / songwriter of VDGG, Peter Hammill is imho, a much better songwriter and lyric writer than Roger Waters. Check some of Peter Hammill's lyrics on his website .. www.sofasound.com
