Need help for a newbie interested in Trance

I've been interested in the DJ culture for quite a while now, and I really want to start spinning records myself. Problem is, I have no idea where to get started. I guess I should buy some turntables and a mixer and some records, but I don't know where to go or what to get. Any help, or pointing me somewhere where I could find help would me much appreciated. Any Trance-heads here???

Hey, good to see someone interested in dance music. Unfortunately, there aren't many people here well-versed in what you're looking for. I've tried to start some related threads which die quickly. Anyways, where are you located? If you are anywhere near the Dallas TX area, I can point you in the right direction. Are you specifically interested in trance? There are a bunch of specialty vinyl-only stores around here. Try out Tech-Sun records on the web. (www.techsun.net) They have an amazing store and carry all the newest releases. Trance and progressive house are their specialties, and Wes is super friendly and can help you out. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Jon

PS - any Dallasites going to the old-school revival at the Lizard Lounge on Jan 10? My buddy MacIX will be spinning at midnight.

Hey. Well in terms of gear there are alot of places to check out. I personaly shop at Pro Sound and Stage Lighting (www.pssl.com) I've also shopped at the DJ Store (www.djstore.com) a few times as well. How much do you want to spend on equipment?

In terms of good trance I might not be much of a help. The last time I really followed the trance scene was about 8 1/2 years ago when I was just starting to spin. Since then I have taken more of a likening to techno a house music.

But here is a few good techno/house producers you might want to check out: Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman, Swayzak, Sutekh, Theorem, Stewart Walker, Adam Beyer, User, John Acquaviva, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Luomo...

Feel free to check out my site www.modiman.com

I have a few samples of my mixes up there and you might get an idea od the stuff I play. If you like it contact me through there and I could hook you up with a bunch of names. I have roughly about 1500 records so I have a decent varity if you like techno and house music. Take care.

modiman.
