i think my portable cd player lens died?

i was playing a cd r in the car (i had the cd player playing for 6 or 7 hours straight) and then it started to skip. then whenever i put a cd in, it wouldnt work. is it possible for them to get worn out after a while.

Absolutely. The average life expectancy of a CD laser is 5 to 7 years of regualar usage. Skipping is the first symptom then refusing to play discs.

If a player overheats it'll do the same thing though....so if it is stinking hot where you have been driving, then that might also be the problem if the player is not that old.

Did you try a CD Lens Cleaner?

Rypro 525 12-31-02 10:45 AM

dont have a lens cleaner and dont know how to use one. would that help it any. its about a year old.

Worth a try, I guess--someone, somewhere on these forums claimed to have good luck with a lens cleaner.

The thing about an average is it's just that; just because the average is 5 to 7 years, doesn't mean yours won't crap out in 1, and mine won't last 13.

Ya I find it better to buy the cheeper models since they have a good chance of crapping out since its portable,I bought a Sony for 50 bucks and it plays fine after 2 years.
