Thanks for The Holy Bible!

Some time ago there was a thread about Manic Street Preachers , much of which concerned discussion of The Holy Bible album and the disappearance of their troubled guitarist Richey James.

Interesting story, sounded like an interesting album. Looked around a bit and picked up the 17-track Japanes import. I got busy for a month or so as it sat shrink-wrapped on my desk. This morning the plastic finally came off and...WHOA!

For each and every one the posters in that thread, I thank you. This is one of the most incredible records I've ever heard.

 Good to hear that those guys' recommendations paid off for you!

I had it in my head that my brother was after their "Best Of" CD for Christmas but it was, in fact, Primal Scream! It happens that in a day or so when I go down to see him I will be travelling over the very bridge where Richey was last seen.

From a quick read of the Amazon site, it looks as if the Greatest Hits only has one track from the (general release of) Holy Bible and also that it contains three songs not found on any album and two new songs - but you'd need to check that for yourself....

Yeah, it is a wonderful album. Check out some of their b-sides around that time as well, if you haven't already. Faster by far is my favourite track, could be my favourite track by them ever. I started liking MSP in '94 and was lucky enough to get tons of their US promos at a used record store for $2 and most of their UK singles for just a few dollars more. Wonderful stuff. Haven't really followed them too much since Everything Must Go, however.

The Manic's are brilliant, of that there is no question, although for some reason, they eschewed there initial desire to make one great album and then dissapear. For that I am glad.

It is an incredible record, but not something to listen to everyday----unless you just like to be put in a dark, suicidal abyss....

I understand that they used a lot of Richey's lyrics on Everything Must Go. Musically/lyrically, was there an immediate or gradual change in the band after his disappearance?

My favorite album of all time.
