Rypro 525 11-22-02 04:27 PM

best michael jackson song?

Lets please have no discussion of him in general, just want one about his music. thanks
i would have to say beat it is my personal favorite, since its got a eddie van hallen solo, and it also is one of his most popular.

evenflow 11-22-02 04:36 PM

Billie Jean.

MJKTool 11-22-02 04:50 PM

I have always liked:

You are not alone & Rock with you

Rogue588 11-22-02 05:03 PM

Hmm...

That's tough. Rather than pick just one from all albums, I have to do it this way...

Off the Wall
Fast • Workin' Day And Night
Slow • I Can't Help It

Thriller
Fast • Beat It
Slow • Human Nature

Bad
FastishLeave Me Alone
Slow • Tie:Liberian Girl/Man In the Mirror

Dangerous
Fast • Give In To Me

History
Fast • Scream
Slow • Stranger In Moscow

The rest don't really matter [though there's only two others...] but, Butterflies is probably the only good song on Invincible. I know this isn't what ya asked for Rypro, but with artists I like [well, used to like] i'm no good at things like this. :D

Tscott 11-22-02 05:07 PM

For some reason I've always liked "Leave Me Alone". All other songs by him I could do without.

Jepthah 11-22-02 05:40 PM

No matter how screwed up the guy may get, I cannot deny that Billie Jean is a work of genius.

A lot of stuff from "Off the Wall" is great too.

The Antipodean 11-22-02 06:48 PM

"Beat It" can't be beat.

Least favorite of the 'hits': "Thriller" What a godawful song this is.

kcdny 11-22-02 06:55 PM

Man In The Mirror has always been my favorite MJ song.

the narrator 11-22-02 07:10 PM

i would have to go with Billie Jean on this one.

conscience 11-22-02 09:23 PM

Dirty Diana

"dir-dy die-an-a owwwh. dir-dy die-an-a owwwh."

Xanager 11-22-02 10:34 PM

tough one. either The Way You Make Me Feel or Billie Jean.

shanester 11-23-02 06:22 AM

I guess his pre solo days with The Jackson 5 don't count but I always liked I Wan't You Back (there first hit single) and I'LL BE THERE (with Jermaine on background vocals sining the harmony)

As for his solo stuff well as other have said..BEAT IT is probably his best single IMO and that guitar solo in the middle by Eddien is one of the all time best!!

Honourable mentions to:

OFF THE WALL
ROCK WITH YOU
GIVE IN TO ME

PS it's unfortunate he didn't record his last album with Quincy Jones..He was the ony producer (along with Berry Gordy) who was able to bring out the best in him and push him to another level creatively IMO

Ginwen 11-23-02 04:08 PM

Probably Billy Jean.

Other contenders

Beat It
Leave Me Alone

GuessWho 11-23-02 04:27 PM

"Beat It" because that's Eddie Van Halen playing guitar

The backing track is also a pretty blatant swipe of Rick James' "Give It To Me Baby".

"Rock With You" is probably my favorite.

isamu 11-24-02 09:07 PM

Human Nature
Baby Be Mine
The Lady in my Life
Billie Jean
Off the Wall
Rock w/u
Heartbreak Motel
Thriller

The guy was a musical genius anyway you slice it.

Goat3001 11-24-02 09:13 PM

I always liked:

"Prosthetic face" off his "Holding a baby out the window" album.

Rogue588 11-24-02 09:13 PM

Agreed. [With the emphasis on the word was] I also agree with shanester's comment about Quincy Jones. MJ cutting off Quincy was almost as much of a boneheaded move as Arista getting rid of Clive Davis.

Kumar J 11-24-02 10:49 PM

Leave Me Alone...is one of the best. But I also like Liberian Girl

Mopower 11-24-02 11:29 PM

Billie Jean, and the whole album in general.

my faves:

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
Thriller
Billie Jean
Smooth Criminal

JAA 11-25-02 08:42 AM

I prefer the young genius version:

Who's Loving You

candyrocket786 11-25-02 09:26 AM

Give in to me....

(The only time I ever saw the video was during an Oprah special w/ MJ. I still wonder why it never received any real airtime.)

Gdrlv 11-25-02 03:09 PM

"Billie Jean"

His guitar solo makes that song.

For the record, my vote goes to Thriller - love it!

einTier 11-25-02 10:04 PM

There are only two songs by Michael Jackson that I listen to today (and one only because it's in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City):

Smooth Criminal
Billie Jean

Applejack 11-25-02 10:44 PM

Billie Jean definitely.

I wish he had quit making music after Bad, and just became a recluse or something.

Sad to see how his legacy has changed in the last 10-15 years

Sonic 11-25-02 11:15 PM

Billy Jean
Thriller
Smooth Criminal

grunter 11-26-02 10:23 AM
