Bryan Adams Christmas Songs

Every year for many years at Christmas I hear two Bryan Adams songs. One is titled "Reggae Christmas," and the other is something like "Christmastime."

These songs have never appeared on a Bryan Adams CD, nor on any popular Christmas compilation album that I know of, and they're great songs!

Does anyone know how to obtain these songs? Anyone but me heard of them?

I only know Bryan singing Run Run Rudolph on the first "A Very Special Christmas" compilation cd.

Christmas Time / Reggae Christmas were released on a 45 record in 1985.

"Christmas Time"
We waited all through the year
for the day to appear
when we could be together in harmony

You know the time will come
peace on earth for everyone
and we can live forever in a world where we are free
let it shine for you and me

There's something about Christmas time
something about Christmas time
that makes you wish it was Christmas everyday

To see the joy in the children's eyes
the way that the old folks smile
says that Christmas will never go away

We're all as one tonight
makes no difference if you're black or white
'cause we can sing together in harmony

I know it's not too late
the world would be a better place
if we can keep the spirit more than one day in the year
send a message loud and clear

[Chorus:]
It's the time of year when everyone's together
we'll celebrate here on Christmas day
when the ones you love are there
you can feel the magic in the air - you know it's everywhere
There's something about Christmas time
something about Christmas time
that makes you wish it was Christmas every day

To see the joy in the children's eyes
the way that the old folks smile
says that Christmas will never go away

[Repeat chorus]

Please tell me Christmas will never go away

"Reggae Christmas"
Every year I get the same feel
Christmas come I wanna pack my backs and flee
wanna get away from New York
Wanna find another place to be

So we're having a reggae christmas
- down in Jamaica we're having a good time too
Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas
a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you

Christmas is nice in Germany
if you like being up to your knees in snow
it's just as cold up in Canada
we gotta find another place to go
So...so we're having a reggae christmas
- down in Jamaica

We're having a good time too.
Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas
a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you.
And so now we're down in Kingstontown
but I get that someday I know
gonna meet my friends down in Kingston town
and those good times gonna rock
and those good times gonna roll.
We're having a reggae christmas
- down in jamaica
we're having a good time too.

Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas
a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you
we're having a reggae christmas
- down in jamaica
we're having a good time too
hey man, we're having reggae christmas
a merry christmad and a reggae new year
A merry christmas and a reggae new year
a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you

I think the 45 was on green vinyl.

You'd have thought some record company would have included these great and festive songs on at least one of the Very Special Christmas albums, but nooooo. Or for Adams to at least have included it on one of his hits collection, or something! C'mon, they play them every year, and nobody can buy them. I just don't get it.

I found Christmas Time on <A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000AFIU/ref=pd_bxgy_text_1/002-8468731-1349651?v=glance&s=music">this</A> CD. :D

I found "Christmas Time" on a Christmas disc at Wal-Mart - a double-disc for $8.00.

Any word yet on Reggae Christmas? Yes, I'm still looking for that friggin' song!!

I got Christmastime, by the way.

I've been looking for Reggae Christmas on CD for a while. It usually fetches VERY high prices on Ebay. I think there was a Japanese 3" CD single. That's about it...i think.

I have Reggae Xmas on mp3. If someone needs it just email me.

It's the eve of 2008 - has Reggae Christmas made it to CD in a retail market yet? For cripes sake!

bigjim25 12-09-07 08:46 PM

Buttmunker -Amazon has an import called Canadian Christmas, Vol. 3. Buy it used for around $12

There was a 12" single release for "Christmas Time/Reggae Christmas", too. I have both that and the 45 from when they were first released. The sleeves are different than the one pictured, though.

I used to work in a record store back then, too, and would often include "Reggae Christmas" on annual Christmas mixes I would play in the store. Whenever I would play them, two things would always happen - 1) people would always ask who it was because they wanted a copy, and 2) no one would believe that it was Bryan Adams when I told them.

One thing that no one has mentioned yet, is that "Reggae Christmas" was the annual MTV Christmas song the year it came out in 1985 - back when they actually used to play music on a regular basis. (The year before that, it was Billy Squire's "Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You"). Check it out here.

That's probably why I have such a strong memory of it... that was the first year we got MTV on our cable lineup and I watched it obsessively. In my memory this was this huge hit song and I was surprised to find out years later it's actually pretty obscure.

The thing of it is - the song does get respected at Christmas time (as does Christmastime) on the radio during the season, and that's just great. The two songs deserve to be recycled during the Christmas season - however, I'm very surprised the two songs never were included on Now! That's What I Call Christmas. Or on any popular Christmas release.

If there is one thing that Bryan Adams can do, and I am pretty sure there is only one, it is to sing some great Christmas songs. I love Reggae Christmas, Christmas Time, and to a lesser degree, Run Run Rudolph.

I occasionally still hear "Christmas Time", but don't think I've heard "Reggae Christmas" on the radio since the 80's. Mostly likely since that single is loooooooong out of print, and most radio stations now are all digital. Except for college radio, it's a rarity to ever really hear anything vinyl being played.

Well, they have been. Only problem is they are Canadian only releases - and not in the U.S. (with the exception of that Rock And Roll Christmas II disc, for "Christmas Time"). But you're otherwise right - by now at least one of those songs should have ended up one of the Now! Christmas compilations, especially since they've put out three volumes already.

I was more surprised that they didn't end up on the 2 disc Bryan Adams Anthology CD that came out a couple of years ago. Would have been prime material for that, too. Guess if they put out a full on "Box Set", then maybe.

I've got a fairly extensive "Rock Christmas" song collection, and I'm always trying to track down obscure stuff on CD. I finally fulfilled one longtime search for another Canadian artist - that being Honeymoon Suite, and their version of Emerson Lake & Palmer's "I Believe In Father Christmas", just last year at this time. I'd been searching for a CD version of that song since 1988, not long after the first time I heard it. It was originally only released on a Warner Brothers holiday promo CD, which only got sent to radio. I tried and lost many an e-bay auction for it over the years. Finally I found out it was on A Canadian Christmas 2, and was just about to order an import copy, when it was announced that a 2 disc "Best Of" Honeymoon Suite CD was coming out, and that song was going to be on it (along with some other hard to acquire songs by them). And even better, that set was cheaper than the other disc I was going to get for one song.
