Today's CDs (11/4)
Ikara Colt -- Chat and Business
Vashti Bunyan -- Just Another Diamond Day Michael Mayer -- Immer Isis -- Oceanic Hawkwind -- Space Ritual Pavement -- Slanted and Enchanted Reissue Pink Floyd -- Meddle The Fall -- Slates So it's my birthday today. Tonight I'm gathering a ton of people at a karaoke bar here in NYC. Should be fun. There's actually a slight chance through a weird set of circumstances that Steve Buscemi will show up for it. I doubt it, but there is that possibility. QOTD: Any requests for songs that I sing tonight? Also, the CMJ festival ended this Saturday with me seeing two of the best sets I've ever seen. First was Ikara Colt (their first US show) and then Secret Machines (who I've seen many times but this was the best they've ever been). I've been doing reports about this for Neumu.net everyday, and one on Saturday will be up late this afternoon. |
Oooooo- Pavement reissued? Are they reissuing all of them?
(BTW - What are some good karaoke bars in or around Manhattan? As for a song, I highly recommend drunk versions of any Spice Girls single or N'Sync's Bye Bye Bye :) ) |
happy b-day Yancey.
Old 97s - Satellite Rides Sonic Youth - Murray Street Hedwig and the Angry Inch Elvis Costello - When I Was Cruel |

right now some Charlatans..
Drive to work was Interpol - I love that cd.. |
Sepultura : (Live 2CD set) "Under a pale grey sky"
The Apples in Stereo: "Discovery of a world inside the Moone" Hermano: "Only a suggestion" Don't you just HATE it when you discover a band only to fall head over heels for them and then discover they played in your town like two weeks ago. GRRRRRR! That just happened to me for the millionth time. Now I'll have to wait god knows how long to see them again... Oh well, that will give me time to familiarize myself with their entire body of work....This time it was The Partridge...errr...The apples in stereo. |
Happy Birthday Yancey.
Today's discs: Pork Tornado The Streets - Original Pirate Material Medeski Martin & Wood - Uninvisible Grand Theft Auto Vice City - Original Soundtrack Box Set (7 discs) |
Bad Astronaut - Houston: We Have A Drinking Problem
Punk Goes Metal |
Happy Birthday! "It's Raining Men" is always a crowd pleaser. Or you could bring it down a bit with some Sinatraesque standards.
As for discs, just three today: Large Professor - 1st Class Peter Gabriel - Up 8 Mile soundtrack I went to CMJ one year during college and had a blast. Saw Buster Poindexter and His Spanish Rocketship, which was actually a really great show. I'd love to go back another time, but responsibilities and cash (the past trip was on the school's dime)... |
Thanks for the kind birthday wishes.
A random note: If you pick up the new issue of Pulse! (the Tower Records magazine, which you can pick up for free there), you can see a picture of me. In the front of each magazine there is the Desert Island Discs section, which is always accompanied by a photo. My girlfriend was an editor there, so for her last issue with them she chose a picture she took of me at Big Sur for the photo. Only about 1/3 of me is in the pic, which is a blessing, believe me. I also have five or six record reviews in the issue. It has Tori Amos on the cover. |
Osanna - Palepoli

I'm actually 24 today, Mike.
Radar Love -- a beautiful choice. My regulars are: Everybody's Talking, Sister Christian, Show Me the Way and Let's Spend the Night Together. |
Originally posted by Starlover Sigur Ros- ( ) I'm going to run to the local music store and pick up Interpol - Turn On the Bright Lights and Spoon - Kill the Moonlight sometime this week...possibly today. It depends on how :johnwoo: Biology studying goes... The cd distributer from the college went to CMJ and he saw Idlewild as well. He named some other bands, but we have rather different tastes. Did anyone see Bright Eyes play? |
Thanks for the info Yancey. And Happy Birthday!
|
Happy Birthday, Yancey
Run DMC - Raising Hell World Party - Goodbye Jumbo Modern Jazz Quartet - Django Dave Pirner - Faces & Names I haven't listened to Raising Hell since it was first released... me and my friend Jason, sophomore year of high school, couple of white boys thinkin' "It's Tricky" was just beyond cool (still remember the video with the helicopter). The album's still listenable... I have no karaoke song suggestions for you, Yancey, but I had a friend in college who enjoyed singing karaoke in the voice of Ethel Merman. Always brought down the house. Led Zeppelin was a fine choice (go ahead, sing "hey, hey, mama, said the way you move" in Ethel's voice, and see if it doesn't bring a smile to your face), but it was always hard to tell with AC/DC where Ethel stopped and reality began. |

Originally posted by BadlyDrawnBoy Hmm seems like I should pick up Sigur Ros then based on your other cd's... My Forever Delayed should be here today I hope. |
Originally posted by Starlover Their last two records are better than radiohead's. |

Originally posted by BadlyDrawnBoy does the us release come with the remix CD? I like the remix cd, came in the mail yesterday. Those stealth Sonic remixes are brilliant, I had about half of the remixes on singles, but it's nice to have them all in one place 11/5 Manic Street Preachers - Forever Delayed |
One thing great about the import Manic CDs though is the packaging. With This Is My Truth...the CD bookelt that came with the import had something like 20 pages of great photography and song lyrics. The American had a condensed version of this.
