Wow. A two page thread on the ramblings of a teenager. Maybe Sprite is wrong and image is everything.
Regardless. Like the old preMTV/pre Internet days, I don't know too much about Avril. Just the two songs i've heard. [And what i've read here] AFAIC the songs are catchy. If I gave it much thought [like you guys obviously have], i'd probably hate her on principle.
As far as looks go...different strokes I guess. With or without makeup she's bland.

The bad news is, there's no actual Hello Kitty cameo in Avril Lavigne's new "Hello Kitty" music video. And the good news is… well, there is no good news. "Hello Kitty" is mewlingly terrible.
So terrible, in fact, that it is not even on her official YouTube channel, although it can be viewed on fansites and as non-YouTube version on her own website.
Avril's bizarrely bad new clip premiered Tuesday night, and the claws instantly came out on the Internet, with music fans calling out Avril (and by proxy, her husband, Chad Kroeger, who co-wrote the song) for ripping off Skrillex's side-shaved haircut and Gwen Stefani's "Harajuku Girls" shtick from more than a decade ago — not to mention for inappropriately appropriating Japanese culture.
Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, and USA Today all viciously slammed the video —Billboard called it "an embarrassment in any language"

She had an alright voice, but yeah, it looks like Chad Kroeger makes everything a hundred times more terrible.

That's a terrible song and video. But she's done similarly awful stuff in the past. Those nasty reviews are just reacting to her marriage. Pretty hollow criticisms if you ask me: she ripped off someone's haircut?! And since we all know Gwen stefani invented Japanese pop culture 10 years ago that means Avril stole that too. So boring when the press just goes along with prevailing opinion.
