college radio - cover help
Okay, I have a radio show for my college and my co-host and I thought it would be a cool idea to play an original song and then play its cover. However, we're trying to play covers that people may have not heard, or had not realized were covers. So far I have this list, and I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could maybe point a couple more to me.
The format of the list is like this: original artist, song, cover artist. 1. Pink Floyd, "Wish You Were Here," Sparklehorse 2. Bob Dylan, "All Along the Watchtower," Jimi Hendrix 3. Velvet Underground, "Sweet Jane," Cowboy Junkies 4. Built to Spill, "Twin Falls," Ben Folds 5. Tom Waits, "Time," Tori Amos 6. Bjork, "All is Full of Love," Death Cab for Cutie 7. The Beatles, "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds," The Black Crowes 8. Leonard Cohen, "Hallelujah," Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley 9. Neil Young, "Cortez the Killer," Built to Spill I know that many people are familiar with The Beatles cover and the Rufus Wainwright version of "Hallelujah" but I can't leave these out with a good conscience. Besides, I think it would be cool to show how many different ways you can do a song (that's why I'm putting it up against Jeff Buckley). Thanks! |

Pick up any of a number of "tribute albums" where various artists sing covers of some group or person.
It's not a good example, but "If I Were a Carpenter" is the only one I can think of off of the top of my head. Here's another: the album "Kiss My Ass" is a tribute album where a number of groups / singers are singing different Kiss songs: http://www.towerrecords.com/product....1035840&cc=USD I've only heard a couple of these covers, but I remember that "Hard Luck Woman" by Garth Brooks was pretty good. |
